Position Summary:

Provides overall HR Management to escalated ship and shore employee relations disputes function, for the entire organization across all brands and U.S. locations. Responsible to oversee aspects of the human resources employee relations disputes function to ensure compliance with U.S. employment laws, and organizational policies and standard practices, and to ensure there is a fair, consistent, and non-discriminatory approach to the management of the U.S. workforce. Serves a dual role as ombudsman for U.S. employees, and makes sure employee voice is heard by an objective party, as well as interprets company policies/regulations to ensure fair and consistent application of all such policies and applicable laws.

Career Snapshot:

  • Oversees and directs escalated ship and shore employee relations disputes function for all brands and locations
    • This includes all ethics claims investigations and those employee complaints escalated by HR Consultants or Senior Management, accusations of policy violations, allegations of discrimination, unfair treatment, etc. both Shipboard and Shoreside
  • Oversees HR SQM policies and all updates to the Employee Handbook
  • Partners with ship and shore HR Consultants enterprise wide and lead all investigations
  • Collaborates with the HR Consultants and management to make appropriate decisions regarding employee relations disputes issues, and make recommendations for appropriate action and steps
  • Partner closely with the Employment attorney to ensure compliance with U.S. and local laws
    • Also works with Corporate HR, management, HRIS, Employee Records, IT, Global Security, Internal Audit, and Legal to gather data/information relevant to employment and discrimination claims, charges, or cases to facilitate prompt resolution
  • Works with the HR Leadership team and/or HR Consultants to investigate complaints and employee relations disputes issues, and ensures findings are documented (i.e. NetClaims system), and recommendations on remedial actions are made to management and leadership whenever a violation of a policy or law is found
  • Serves as Company representative for employment relations cases
  • Determines how to maximize the employee experience by conducting surveys, forming focus groups, analyzing responses and developing and implementing solutions
  • Educates management and employees regarding disciplinary actions, moves, and terminations to ensure complete documentation and compliance with company guidelines
  • Develops, recommends, and implements approved organization-wide employee relations policies and practices
  • Ensures the uniform and equitable application of organization policies and procedures
  • Conducts organization audits to identify employee relations issues, and takes appropriate actions to address and resolve those issues
  • Conducts review of all terminations to ensure fairness and consistency and provides final approval
  • Investigates problems, such as: working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals and grievances
    • According to circumstances, provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental officials and individuals
  • Evaluates or reviews evaluations of performance on all employees; effectively recommends hiring, promotion, termination, disciplinary, and commendatory actions of all assigned personnel

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years professional HR/employee relations experience
    • Five (5) years of which must have been in a supervisory/management position leading an HR function or compliance staff; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Human Resources Management or closely related field
  • Must possess considerable knowledge and hands on experience of management, employee relations disputes; the principles, practices, and procedures of Human Resources Management
  • Must possess overall knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations (i.e. EEOC, ADA, FMLA, etc.) and must remain current with all federal, state, and municipal laws
  • Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action
  • Possess in-depth knowledge and practice of fundamental HR concepts, best practices and procedures of employee relations, as well as development and implementation of organizational policies
  • Must have the ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of subordinate staff engaged in various professional, technical, and clerical functions
  • Experience in the preparation of investigational documents for litigation support
  • Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Ability to develop and execute a consistent employee relations platform for RCL
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely to internal leaders and external constiuents
  • Solid ability to objectively gather, analyze and make recommendations on employee relations actions
  • Develop, execute and proactively maintain RCL employee handbook, shipboard HR Safety & Quality Manual.

Preferences:

  • Masters Degree preferred
  • SHRM Certified Professional (PHR) or Senior Professional (SPHR) preferred
