This role is based on Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day Island Recreation operation, all life guarding and rental activities on Castaway Cay
  • Actively performance manage Island Recreation Crew (Recreation Staff and Rental Host/Hostess); approximately 30+ Crew members
  • Oversee Island rental operation areas; areas include but are not limited to snorkeling, use of small non-motorized watercraft, bicycles, floats, strollers, and wheelchairs while ensuring proper sanitation, upkeep, maintenance and cleanliness of all equipment
  • Measure the effectiveness of all activities provided by the Island Recreation Crew in delivering exceptional services to Guest and Crew
  • Create daily work schedule, distributing work assignments accordingly
  • Prepare weekly boat and security schedules for shipboard Crew rotations
  • Oversee on-island lifeguard in-service training as well as new hire on-the-job training
  • Establish and execute a Crew development plan to provide effective motivation, maintain morale, promote diversity, and minimize turnover of staff
  • Oversee use and ordering of all recreation supplies to ensure adequate stock
  • Assist in the preparation of annual operating plan, planned work and maintenance budget and effectively manage to targeted business goals
  • Liaison with ship for Guest service needs that occur on island and with vendors
  • Create and lead innovative solutions for improved Guest services on Castaway Cay

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum three years management experience within a high volume Resort operation
  • Prior shipboard and/or remote resort and/or island operations experience
  • Proven experience in recreation, water safety instructor and/or advance lifesaving skills High School degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining water sport and/or recreational equipment (sailboats, bicycles, etc.)
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work and communicate effectively with a diversified team
  • Demonstrated action orientation and self-starter, planning for and requiring little follow-up
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and team leadership
  • Computer fluency on word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Receptive to island life, living and working on a remote island for 3-4 months at a time with an average of 6-weeks off in-between contracts
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be able to speak, read and write fluent English
  • Willingness to live on a remote island with approximately 100 other crew members Willingness to commit to an island contract
  • Be able to adhere to Disney Cruise Line appearance guidelines
  • Enjoy working in a guest-service oriented environment
  • Be flexible with your work schedule and job duties
  • Appreciate diversity among guests and crew

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent
  • Open water diver and diving rescue certification
  • Previous maintenance experience
  • Experience with facilities management
