To oversee the operation, maintenance and upgrade of marine and customer-facing electro-technical systems including IT, audio-visual and bridge, navigation and communications equipment to ensure that projects are integrated into ship’s infrastructure successfully and managed in a cost-effective manner.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Operations the Electro-technical Manager is responsible for ensuring that electro-technical related operations are technically managed and operated in the most cost effective manner and in compliance with all International, Flag State and Port State legal requirements.

What you will be doing

The Electro-technical Manager will support customer product development teams to provide a ship electro-technical infrastructure that is capable of delivering product requirements, providing subject matter expertise on marine electro-technical equipment including: bridge navigation and communications equipment; IT infrastructure and internet services and audio-visual and associated entertainment systems.

Co-ordinating electro-technical projects, the Electro-technical Manager will manage their integration into on-board and shore-side management infrastructures, oversee business partners and suppliers to ensure that projects are suitable for marine use, are managed in a technically robust manner and deliver good value for money. He will work with suppliers to implement planned maintenance systems in all customer-facing electro-technical systems.

The Electro-technical Manager will identify maintenance and upgrade requirements and help develop financial estimates to ensure that projects can be delivered within required timescales and budgets. The job holder will assess ship-board operation of electro-technical systems and monitor the performance of personnel directly involved in its operation and maintenance.

Developing and implementing long-term plans to improve performance of systems and control costs effectively, the Electro-technical Manager will agree and implement standards of operation and maintenance with business partners and suppliers. Reviewing and developing repair and modification specifications, he will take into account legislative requirements, business standards and feedback from external business partners, ships’ teams and internal stakeholders
Reviewing all reports of electro-technical non-conformities, incidents or near misses and following-up the implementation and verification of corrective/preventive actions process inclusive their effectiveness, the Electro-technical Manager will monitor and oversee the required surveys, ensuring that the certification of assigned vessels are maintained in accordance with the relevant Class and Flag State requirements. Keeping abreast of Statutory and Class regulations and standards the Electro-technical Manager will advise the Head of Technical Operations as it becomes apparent that investment is required to comply with any changes.

Attending repairs and out of service maintenance periods to ensure that work is being conducted as required and costs are being properly controlled, the Electro-technical Manager will evaluate repair quotations, selecting repair companies and location of the repairs, based on the “best quality of works” / “cost” relation, taking into account the vessels’ itinerary and Charter Party obligations.
The Electro-technical Manager will audit the Planned Maintenance System to ensure that electro-technical equipment is being maintained effectively and will ensure that the purchase orders for electro-technical spares/stores are reviewed for accuracy and cost-effectiveness.

Monitoring and evaluating the performance and working practices of the ships’ electro-technical staff, the Electro-technical Manager will have oversight of technical problems and major defects and will follow up until corrective action is verified. The role holder will work with the vessels’ Document of Compliance holders to develop Safety Management Systems to implement TUI procedures and standards of operation.

The Electro-technical Manager will work with hotel management and product development teams to deliver hotel refurbishment and upgrade products and will prepare data to support business cases for technical and hotel refurbishment projects.

What we are looking for

  • Recognised qualification or role-based training from either the IT, audio-visual or marine electro-technical industries.
  • Sea going experience as an electro-technical officer, and/or substantial shore-based experience supporting marine electro-technical equipment
  • Willingness and genuine interest in developing and expanding existing expertise and applying it to other electro-technical systems on board modern cruise ships
  • Good understanding and experience of dealing with maritime regulation and Class requirements.
  • Experienced in delivering electro-technical projects
