Head Waiter/Waitress

Head Waiter on board 4* and 5* river cruise ships that sail along European Rivers.The Head Waiter is responsible for a high standard of quality, efficiency, cleanliness and productivity of the restaurant department. He/she operates in the dining room and supervises the dining crew, corrects table settings, takes an active part in the restaurant personnel training program and ensures that the cleaning schedule is followed by the personnel. The Head Waiter should be able to serve demanding guest of high standards.

TASKS

• Supervising and participating in kitchen and dining area
• Training workers in food preparation, and in service, sanitation, and safety procedures
• Observing and evaluating workers and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service, and complete disciplinary write-ups
• Assisting in preparation of food and drink menus
• Adjusting complaints regarding food or service
• Maintaining restaurant inventory
• Cleaning activities

REQUIREMENTS

• At least three or four years of hotel or prior ship experience in a comparable position
• Excellent command of English language (knowledge of an additional language will be considered as an advantage)
• Degree in Hospitality or relevant subject will be considered as an advantage
• A flexible and motivated team player and a high degree of social competence
• Management and organisational skills
• Ability to supervise and coordinate a team of waiter/waitresses
• Ability to schedule the service structure to the needs of the guests
• Knowledge of the wines
• Friendly appearance
• Stress resistant
