Job Description:
128.0 - Head Waiter
- 128.0.a Reporting to: Maitre d\'Hotel
128.0.b Primary Objective of Position
- .1 To provide passengers with courteous, professional food service by supervising the waiter staff in the dining room
128.0.c Major Areas of Responsibility
- .1 Provides the guest with prompt, professional service within assigned area:
- Ensures that tables are clean and orderly by directing the setup prior to meal hours and cleaning table area after meal periods.
- Ensures that the waiter/esses within assigned sections are thoroughly trained in their duties and are knowledgeable about the various dishes prepared by the galley.
- Handles passenger requests for special (off the menu) items.
- Contacts passengers with special dietary requirements.
- Ensures that their waiter/ess and the galley are properly informed to provide the items required.
- Assists in the pouring of wine as appropriate.
- Ensures that all tables and trolleys are set up that linen and tableware are clean and in good condition.
- Advises Maitre d\'Hotel of any deficiencies not immediately rectified.
- .2 Assists Maitre d\' Hotel as requested
- Supervises buffet service and set up.
- Maintains inventory of all silverware, glassware, china and/or consumable items used in the dining room or buffet
- Insures that the dining areas are kept in a clean and sanitary condition at all times
- .3 Achieves guest service standards by ensuring that all employees adhere to the Company\'s service standards
- Implements strategies to achieve service goals in conjunction with the Maitre D\'
- Ensures that the dining room staff meets service standards.
- Ensures that employees smile at guest and greet by name.
- Ensures that all passenger requests, inquiries and concerns are responded to promptly.
- Monitors shipboard activities and takes corrective action as requested to ensure passenger satisfaction.
128.0.d Utilizes leadership skills and motivation techniques in order to maximize employee productivity
- .1 Provides orientation and training.
- .2 Conducts employee meetings and counseling sessions.
- .3 Determines and communicates standards of performance to employees.
- .4 Evaluates employees on a regular basis
- .5 Develops employees to maximize potential and prepares for future promotional opportunities
128.0.e Keeps the Maitre ‘D promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance coming to his/her attention so prompt corrective action can be taken.
