Job Description:
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Celebrity Cruises Inc's standards, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, safety policies and any other guidance/direction that may be provided by the Chief Engineer. The Hotel Maintenance Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of maintenance/repairs of hotel and F & B department's equipments and machinery. These activities are to be carried out in coordination with the shipboard maintenance team and as per the recommendation/suggestions of the Shipboard Steering Committee. The Hotel Maintenance Manager must work in close and effective cooperation with the Hotel Director, F & B Manager in order to achieve optimal results that sustain the brand's position as the highest-rated premium cruise line. The Hotel Maintenance Manager works under the supervision of Staff Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer.
- In accordance with Celebrity Cruises Inc's philosophy, policies and service standards, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guest or fellow CFMs and/or in the presence of guest contact and CFM areas.
- Participates as a member of the Shipboard Maintenance Team (composed of the Staff Chief Engineer, Chief Electrician, Electronic Engineer and Hotel Maintenance Manager). Collaborates with the entire team with regard to all shipboard repair and maintenance matters.
- Directs the hotel maintenance function onboard the vessel with a team/staff of Sanitation Engineer, Electricians, Assistant A/C Engineer, Plumbers, Carpenters, Upholsterer and Varnishers.
- Oversees the assignment of duties, responsibility and workstation of employees and reports to Staff Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer for any concerns. Observes and evaluates employees and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service is met. Recommends personnel actions such as new hire requests and discharges to Chief Engineer to ensure proper staffing. Provides final approval for overtime needs in consultation with the Staff Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer.
- Establishes procedures and tests for the operation, maintenance including preventive maintenance, repair of machineries and equipments and Hotel furnishings. Evaluates and recommends the repair or modification based on such factors such as environment, service, costs and system capabilities. Inspects installation progress including electronic equipment, instruments, products and systems to ensure compliance with established specifications, safety standards and applicable codes and regulations in coordination with Staff Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer.
- On a regular basis, meets with subordinates and staff to review the requirements of the day's schedule, including guest requirements. Disseminates any other company related correspondence, notices, policies and procedures etc. Reviews schedule to estimate time requirements to ensure speed and efficiency. Meets various department managers or staff to review guest comments to implement revisions and improvements in coordination with the Chief Engineer.
- Monitor workstations, work sites and staff for adherence to all related procedures. Enforces and follows USPH standards, safety and environmental etc. for all assigned areas, equipments and machineries. Consults with specialty staff such as the safety and environmental officer's to compliance with policies and procedures.
- Plan and discuss with the Chief Engineer about the material requirements for product replacements and various maintenance etc. Assist with the development of long term plans, conceptual designs and capital outlay requirements and documentation for Hotel areas in coordination with the Chief Engineer.
- Tracks maintenance schedules on AMOS computerized system. Reviews and plans the requirement of spares for maintenance in various areas and request in correct quantities within acceptable timeframes and in accordance with established control procedures. Conducts workstation spot checks to ensure items are correctly stored and utilized to minimize waste. Coordinate parts ordering with Amos Controller and perform the planned maintenance through the Amos system.
- Assists in the implementation and maintenance of Celebrity Cruises Inc's brand standards for Hotel and F&B areas. Reviews audit comments, discusses with subordinate staff and implement audit recommendations by corrective actions.
- Ensures all subordinate staff are familiar with the safe working procedures and usage of personal protective equipments as and when required.
- Investigates and resolves maintenance-related quality and service complaints in a timely manner and provides prompt and effective follow/up solutions in collaboration with the Hotel department management team.
- Attends meetings, training activities, courses, safety drills and all other work related activities as required.
- Responsible for maintenance of all deck machineries such as all boats, cranes, platforms, laundry machineries, side shell doors, fire doors, sliding doors, watertight doors, incinerators, pulpers and various other garbage handling equipments.
- Make inspections of all related areas on a regular basis and report any abnormalities to the Chief Engineer.
- The Hotel Maintenance Manager is a day working supervisory position. As instructed each of the Hotel Maintenance Manager must coordinate the required activities and resources with the Staff Chief Engineer and the Chief Engineer in order to obtain the required resources from the pool of Engineer and/or other Engine Department CFMs.
- Shipboard employee holding this position may/will be required to perform any other job related duties as assigned by the Staff Chief Engineer or Chief Engineer.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial responsibilities for budget, expenses and/or achievement of revenue targets.
- Reviews financial transactions and monitors budget to ensure efficient operation and to ensure expenditures are within budget limitations without compromising on quality.
- Constantly reviews current operating procedures for cost reduction opportunities.
MOTIVATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
People management responsibilities to ensure optimal performance of the function.
- Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to subordinates to strengthen their current performance and preparation for future advancement. Utilizes and administers the disciplinary action process as and when required through coaching and counseling to improve efficiency in coordination with the Chief Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job.
- Completion of two contracts internally as 1st Engineer or 2nd Engineer with Chief Engineer's license with performance rating satisfactory or above and demonstrated leadership skills.
- He/She should be able maintain a good working relationship with all Department Heads.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, documentation, instructions or specifications regarding modifications and enhancements etc.
- Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established timeframes and targets for the entire Hotel and F & B areas maintenance. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with department heads, coworkers and other shipboard employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the financial aspects of hotel maintenance operations including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost control.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the management of headcount within assigned are as it relates to and supports the business needs of the vessel and be accountable for all the activities and operation related to this job function.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal service including needs assessment, problem resolution and achievement of quality service standards.
- Ability to manage the international staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work. Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve efficiency.
- Working knowledge of computers, internet access and the ability to navigate within varieties of software packages such as Excel, Word and Power Point.
Language Requirements:
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English in-order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, co-workers and making reports concerning the jobs to Chief Engineer.
