Navigation Officer

Assists the Captain and the 2nd Captain with their duties. Responsible for execution of nautical maintenance and replacement of Captain and 2nd Captain. Reports to Captain / 2nd Captain and/or Nautical Manager in the main office.

Requirements

• Secondary school
• Rhine patent (Danube patent preferred but not required)
• Radar patent
• In good command of the German and English language
• Good health and presentation
• Enthusiastic and flexible
• Willing to be away from home for a longer period of time
• Pro-active and willing to work hard
• Willing to wear a uniform / company clothing
• Preferably in possession of a First Aid certificate

Characteristics

The position is a mix of strategic and operational tasks, however, the emphasis lies on the operational side. It requires flexibility, ability to work under pressure, professionalism and social skills.

Job description

The navigation officer is motivated to perform all the tasks that are required. He replaces the Captain and / or 2nd Captain in case of absence and assists them if necessary with nautical maintenance and the nautical program.

The navigation officer works directly under the Captain and 2nd Captain and instructs the sailors and engineer in regards to their daily tasks. He is mainly working with the other nautical crew and assists the engineer when necessary. The navigation officer also participates in the watch schedule, including night watches.
