2nd Captain

Together with the Captain, responsible for the Nautical team on board, the nautical program and the maintenance on board of the assigned vessel.

• Is in charge of the vessel in case of absence of the Captain.
• Works closely with the Hotel Manager on board.
• Reports to the Captain or Nautical Manager in the main office and/or Management if necessary.

Requirements

• Secondary school
• Rhine patent till Mannheim (Danube patent preferred but not required)
• Radar patent
• In perfect command of the Dutch language
• In good command of the German and English language
• French language preferred but not required
• Good health and presentation
• Enthusiastic and flexible
• Willing to be away from home for a longer period of time
• Pro-active and willing to work hard
• Willing to wear a uniform / company clothing
• Preferably in possession of a First Aid certificate

Job description

The 2nd Captain is the business card of the company. The 2nd Captain always handles situations in correct manners, shows concern for the company goals and is knowledgeable in his duties. Not only leading the nautical team, but also the correct handling of Guests is a must.

Together with the Captain the 2nd Captain is responsible for the ship, safety and security of the crew and the guests at all times. Together with the Hotel Manager, the 2nd Captain is also responsible for the good operation of the Hotel operation on board.

The 2nd Captain leads the nautical team but can work with them and perform nautical duties if the situation requires this. He makes the work schedules, monitors the work and assists when necessary, this applies to Hotel operation as well if needed.

The 2nd Captain motivates and stimulates the crew to provide a pleasant working atmosphere. At the same time the 2nd Captain assures a working environment with discipline and makes sure that the house rules and terms in the individual labour contracts are being followed at all times.

The 2nd Captain keeps in contact with the guests and tour leaders, he performs as a host and attends special occasions like ceremonies, welcome and farewell dinners in case of absence of the Captain.
