Manager, Technical Systems and Safety


Position Summary:

Manager of Technical Systems & Safety oversees the condition and initiatives related to fire safety and LSA systems, including but not limited to fire fighting systems, life boats, davits, maintenance, monitoring of such systems, and SQM policies within GMTS area of responsibility. Areas of concern can range from all machinery in Engine spaces, to equipment in accommodation areas affecting to the fire safety of the ship or LSA. Actively initiate, plan, coordinate and drive activities of ongoing upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance to existing systems, to ensure they are accomplished within prescribed time frame and budget. Manage the LSA related riding teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Marine Operations Ship Managers and Superintendent(s) of all Brands on all Fire Safety and LSA related matters
  • Stays current with technical research and projects development related Fire Safety and evaluate new technology for use across the fleet. Run test programs on new equipment in conjunction with ship personnel as directed.
  • Organize the service and repair of lifeboat davits and life raft winches in coordination with the Staff Captain.
  • In conjunction with the Ship Managers, supports Life Boat planning and follow up on all vessels.
  • Stays current on SQM policy related to Fire Safety and LSA and is responsible for the timely corrections of audit findings as assigned.
  • Coordinates activities to ensure project progresses on schedule, accurately reflects current project status through regular updates of tasks and statuses.
  • With input from the direct reports onboard, establish budgets, work plans, procedures, responsibilities, goals, scope, outline milestones and tracking routines for completing the assigned projects.
  • Proactively interface with representatives of different departments within the company, for the purpose of assigned project status and monitoring progress.
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel modify schedules or plans as required. Serves as single point of contact for collecting and sharing requested information
  • Manages the travelling Davit Teams onboard all the ships.

Financial Responsibilities:
Assists in the preparation and review of operating budgets related to aforementioned systems.
Monitors and updates the Director of Technical & Energy, as well as the Marine Finance team of changes, additions or reductions to assigned CAR projects.




Qualifications:

BSC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or, graduate of a Maritime

Engineering Academy and minimum 5 years working experience onboard cruise vessel.

Working knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment with e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related printers and equipment.

Practical knowledge of AutoCad and Microsoft Project is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.

Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.

Proficient with vessel operations in order to apply projects and instructions to existing conditions.

Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple projects on multiple vessels; understand the importance of keeping many departments informed with policy or onboard changes.

Excellent interpersonal skills in order to communicate to the highest levels of the corporation.
