Position Summary:

The Functional Analyst position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and support of financial tools/applications related to the Operations Accounting group functions. These tools allow the accurate performance of accounting functions related to multi-million dollar revenues and expenses pertaining to either the Hotel or Vessel operations of multiple Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. brands. This individual acts as the subject matter expert with respect to financial systems and particular applications requiring robust Macros, VBA and Database / SQL development and customizations. This employee will analyze existing systems, applications, and processes to identify integrity issues and process improvements, make recommendations, and develop as well as implement corrections and improvements. In certain instances, the Functional Analyst will act as the liaison between Operations Accounting, Financial Applications and IT to identify support issues and develop and deploy resolutions for systems/applications requiring the support or involvement of these groups. The position will also be responsible for developing documentation and conducting system testing and training programs based on shoreside and shipboard user requirements / needs.

  • Creates functional specification documents and test scripts with respect to the development and implementation of new applications or upgrades of existing applications
  • Develops and implements robust applications with Excel and/or databases (e.g. Access) front ends requiring extensive macro, VBA and SQL development / customizations
  • Routinely provides application maintenance, modifications and enhancements as needed to support business requirements
  • Manages and adheres to the Change Management Request process with respect to application enhancements and upgrades
  • Coordinates and, at times, leads user testing throughout project development and implementation
  • Analyzes applications / system integrity and financial processes / issues, recommends and executes resolutions to ensure compliance with the organization's Sarbanes Oxley controls
  • Develops training documentation for shipboard and shoreside application users
  • May be required to travel (e.g. for conducting training programs )
  • Collaborates with shipboard and shoreside financial teams, Financial Applications, IT, and internal / external auditors in the development, implementation and support of financial applications / systems as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience (2-3 years) in the area of Information Technology, Finance and/or Accounting
  • Experience with project life cycle implementations including development of project scope / spec documentation and test scripts
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to identify and resolve systems / application integrity and financial issues
  • Ability to work on projects lacking structure or precedent with minimal direction from a systems perspective
  • Ability to understand accounting / financial requirements and applying these when developing systems / applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work in large groups and interact with various levels of management.

Preferences:

  • Development experience with MS Access / Excel applications using robust macros, VBA and SQL. Oracle, SQL Server, JD Edwards and CrunchTime knowledge preferred
