Position Summary:

Responsible to ensure that accident and injury related documentation is completed in a manner such that the factual information recorded is complete and relevant in determining the causal factors of the incident, and that short and long term corrective actions are identified. Ensures that investigations are conducted in a manner that protects the company, in the occurrence of litigation. Partners with Shipboard Management and Global Security on the assessment of contributing factors to accident, collection of witness statements, directing the preservation of evidence and managing the corrective actions following the incident to prevent re-occurrence. Investigates allegations of claims related fraud or the falsification of injury related statistics and other information. The Loss Prevention Investigation Specialist will assist in collecting information that may result in an Operational Incident Review as it pertains to injury related incidents.

Career Snapshot:

  • First point of notification for serious guest and crew injuries, and will coordinate the Risk Management investigation in conjunction with Global Security, Crew Medical, Medical Operations and Care Team, as appropriate
  • Ensures all appropriate information is collected following serious injuries to allow for analysis, corrective actions and ensure all pertinent legal information is collected and maintained
  • Trains shipboard personnel on accident investigation procedures and techniques
  • Liaises with shoreside operations departments to inform them of investigation progress and other related factors
  • Works with shipboard and shoreside departments to ensure proper immediate and long term corrective actions are implemented
  • Investigates potential cases of fraud as it pertains to falsification of medical exams or certificates
  • Assists in managing the Operations Incident Review process, pertaining to injuries
  • Routinely conducts quality reviews of injury reports and ensures proper classification for the operating lines' injury reduction measurement criteria, and for corporate key performance indicators
  • Prepares detailed investigation reports
  • Works with the classification society, flag state investigators, port state agencies, insurance providers or Coast Guard on injury investigations
  • Participates in depositions on injury investigations and may act as the company representative during these cases

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, directly related experience required
    • With a focus in occupational safety, loss prevention, security/law enforcement, risk management or situation management
  • Minimum of five years of experience in areas noted above
  • Experience in investigations involving various types of injury, property, fire, security, fraud or other incidents
  • Ability to travel, internationally and domestically, on short notice required
  • Skilled in writing technical reports, and in making oral presentations before large audiences
  • Knowledge of injury investigation practices, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of general marine operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge in incident investigation
