As an Environmental Officer, you will ensure the highest possible levels of compliance by shipboard staff with all established environmental standards, in line with the Company’s Core Values.

Job Responsibilities Include:

• Responsible for the oversight and verification of shipboard environmental compliance as well as being the ship ambassador when environmental tours are conducted.
• Maintains environmental compliance with all applicable internal, external and governmental regulations.
• Monitors Oil Record, Garbage Record, Sewage and Greywater Discharge and Ballast Water log books at least once per week.
• Visits Bridge, Engine Room and ECR daily to verify that watch keepers are aware of environmental policies for the day and to check communications between the Bridge and ERC.
• Identifies high risk areas and provides clear recommended solutions and consistently contributes ideas towards the formulation and implementation of short and long-range plans for improving environmental management at all levels. 
• Assists crew in solving environmental concerns, such as inoperative or ineffective pollution prevention and waste handling equipment, ineffective procedures, or ineffective pollution minimizing programs, such as recycling and hazardous materials. 
• Ensures waste systems are operational and operated according to environmental regulations.
• Manages garbage room operations and supervises collection and disposal of waste. 
• Efficiently and accurately maintains the onboard Chemical Management System, quarantining unapproved chemicals and requesting timely additions to the CMS.

Qualifications

• Engine Officer License and/or an environmental/science-based bachelor’s degree or higher 
• Candidate must have at least five years of experience with environmental management systems 
• STCW training certificates required 
• Strong leadership skills 
• Management experience 
• Command of the English language, both verbal and written
