Purpose of Position
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Financial Officer is overall responsible for the entire ship financial operation, including revenue and cost management, as well as guests and crew administration. Responsible to implement and enforce all necessary actions to ensure the Viking Ocean Product is delivered smoothly and flawlessly, in line with budget and target
Your Responsibilities
- Responsible for Revenue and cost control and adherence to set budgets•Control of ship financial operation, reporting and statistics and internal auditing as required, including accounting, payroll and cruise closing
- Continuous communication with onboard and shoreside departments to ensure proper annual budget allocation and revenue / cost control management, including onboard monthly department financial statement management.
- Conducts on a weekly basis a Revenue and Cost Management meeting with all department heads and concessionaires to create, implement and maintain new ideas for generating revenue in accordance with Standard Operation Procedures.
- Ensures that related onboard revenue areas render the best possible service and achieve maximum sales in accordance to defined forecast.
- Ensure that all Hotel Department operations are conducted economically, in alignment with defined targets.
- Manage ship’s funds and cash availability.
- Perform cruise closing and auditing of all cash floats once per week.
- Receive weekly inventory reports from all sources in the Hotel Department, ensuring that supplies are sufficient but not excessive.•Responsible for the proper submission of Cruise End financial reports.
- Liaison with Shoreside Financial departments for all financial matters in alignment with agreed procedure.
- Oversee clearance of the vessel and embarkation in cooperation with Hotel Purser, Crew Purser and 2nd Purser Admin
- Supervision of Guest Service / Front Desk operation.
- Plan all Shop/Concessionaire’s events with Department Heads.
- Control sale of shore excursions and tour dispatches.
- Oversee all onboard guest materials, ensuring timely printing and delivery of all printed matters by Purser's department.
- To be familiar with the legal aspects of Crew employment, Health and Safety at work, the company’s SMS and Environmental Policies and all other company directives governing the administration of Crew and Port Operations.
Active liaison with guests
- Provide visible leadership by example while interacting with guests.
- Proven skills to be confident when dealing with Guest complaints.
- Support all teams during peak hours, be available to guests for feedbacks and general inquiries.
Management and motivation of the service crew
- Supervision/support of a professional welcoming and sales orientated department in accordance with S.T.A.R. Service Experience.
- Accountable for the supervision and training of all hotel department heads and supervisors, including Concessionaires.
- Provide visible leadership by example.•Align crew attitudes to corporate objectives.•Employ contemporary management techniques to ensure all employees are motivated to provide exemplary customer service.
- Makes sure Heads of Department have fully briefed their staff about their routines before each cruise, with instructions on handling special requests and other unusual situations.
- Takes initiative, strong communicator, team player and coach.
Supervisor: General Manager, Captain
Assist the GM with instructions to: Hotel Operation Department Heads
Receives instructions from: General Manager, Director of Operations, CFO / Director of Finance, Director of Operations & Development.
Your Profile
- Diploma from international recognized hotel school or university.
- Min. 5 years Chief Purser or Food & Beverage Manager on 5-star ship.
- Financial background and exposure to Budgeting and financial analysis.
- Completed appropriate HR training, craft training or equivalent.
- Excellent English skills in both writing and speech, other languages a plus
- Service and detail oriented with a strong guest focus
- Excellent management, organizational and communication skills
- Flexibility and stress resistance, team player, commitment, positivepersonality, professional appearance
