PEOPLECONQUEST, a Human Resources National Company in ongoing expansion, is currently recruiting for a renowned Cruise Company with the following profile:

Position Title: Assistant Waiter
Contract Length: 6 Months

Position Summary:

Is responsible to provide friendly and professional service in all food service outlets (both A La Carte and Buffet), anticipating and fulfilling guest’s needs at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Pullmantur Cruise’s Pillars of Safety, Service and Style, ISM and SQM standards and environmental regulations.
  2. Has a thorough understanding of Time and Attendance procedures, shipboard training, and is familiar with the contracts and work schedule hours/week and supporting documentation.
  3. Is aware of, and/or acquires the necessary knowledge to comply with the ship’s standard operation, in order to assist guests and crewmembers with inquiries.
  4. Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.
  5. Performs related duties as required. This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the shipboard employee occupying this position.
  6. Shipboard employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.
  7. Must be knowledgeable with the all menu items and ingredients and have sufficient knowledge to answer guest’s questions. Goes out of his way to promote the product to be served.
  8. Is fully responsible for the satisfaction of guests on his station and has the ability to coordinate service with his Waiter, following service procedures and ensuring full guest satisfaction.
  9. Responsible to explain the menu to guests and follows all procedures to ensure wine sales, as well as proper control of the “All Inclusive” wines.
  10. Responsible to follow the service procedures laid out by Restaurant Management team and acknowledges them by signing training forms.
  11. Responsible to check if guest are pleased with the food and service, and amends service when necessary to fully satisfy guests.
  12. Has sufficient knowledge to inform guests about the overall cruise product and has a good knowledge of the ship.
  13. Must report for duty on assigned times following his Superior instructions in line with the company rules and regulations.
  14. Will be required to perform side jobs as per the Restaurant Manager schedule.
  15. Responsible for keeping his working section clean and tidy and follows all sanitation regulations.
  16. Is responsible to properly log his working hours in the Weekly Time Card, bearing in mind breaks taken and correct start and finish times.
  17. When assigned to Buffet duty or open deck service, goes out of his way to follow company’s service standards.
  18. At times such as dry docks or lay up periods (or any other time deemed by ship’s management), may be assigned to perform other tasks such as working in the messes or carrying out any other duty in the hotel division.
  19. Is responsible to observe the company’s standards of grooming at all times.
  20. Observes all other ships rules and regulations including those related to safety.
  21. Must have the physical ability to carry up to 20 plates which can weigh up to 15 – 20 kilos.
  22. May be assigned also to perform cleaning duties inside the restaurant department.

Training Requirements:

  • Certificates of completion of training programs in the Food and Beverage area including sanitation.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an Assistant Waiter / Runner position in shore in a 3 stars Hotel or experience onboard in a similar position.
  • Sanitation and Environmental knowledge.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Required to speak, read and write in English in an Intermediate level in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms.
  • Required to speak, read and write in Spanish in an Intermediate level in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in French or Portuguese language in an Intermediate or Advanced level can be required depending on the ship and the season the candidate is going to embark.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to adapt fast to new procedures and systems.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand walk, use hand to touch, handle, or feel reach with hands and arms , talk or hear, and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs, as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • This position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use and handling of supplies and equipment’s.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship, in a 4/5* Hotel or in an Upscale Restaurant.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the following languages is required: English, French
