Purpose of Position

We are expanding our operations team and are looking for a dedicated individual to fill the newly created role of Junior Port Cost Analyst. The Junior Port Cost Analyst’s main responsibility will be to handle and oversee incurred port costs and ensure final costs are in line with budget and agreed tariffs/agreements for our ocean cruise ships worldwide. This person will administer and follow up on day to day issues with our Hub team in Poland as well as our port agents locally in each port. Furthermore, the Junior Port Cost Analyst will be expected to be involved in the analysis of relevant cost factors, cost saving projects, discount negotiations and other projects. He/she will cooperate closely with our finance team.
The ideal candidate is either just getting started in their career and looking for an entry level position in the cruise industry, or has some experience from analytical or financial work and is looking for a new challenge. As the organisation is set to expand over the next years he/she must be set to adapt to the changing needs and growth of the company. The role may entail some degree of travelling for planning and in support of ships’ operations, but is predominantly an office-based position.

This role is located in Basel/Switzerland and reports directly to the Senior Port Operations Manager. Please note that we can only accept applicants who either possess a valid Swiss work permit or are eligible to work in Switzerland.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the “Super User” for port costs module in our software tool Marine Exchange Program (MXP)
  • Maintain and update the port cost content of the MXP system
  • Support reporting and planning activities
  • Follow up and monitor cost reduction measures
  • Monitor guest satisfaction scores to ensure services are provided efficiently at the lowest possible cost whilst still being delivered at the required guest expectation levels
  • Assist in the research of cost saving measures
  • Possess a good knowledge of port tariff structures and price lists
  • Maintain business contacts with established suppliers, ground operators and port agents
  • Maintain close contact with our team at Wilhelmsen Ships Services and our internal finance team

QUALIFICATION PROFILE

  • Recently graduated either in Business Administration or in a related field
  • Excellent computer literacy, especially in Excel (familiar with pivot tables, v-lookups and ideally macros)
  • Fluent English skills, both verbally and in written
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong team player
  • Detail-oriented and pragmatic
  • Analytical and solution-oriented mindset
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Self-starter and able to prioritize tasks efficiently
  • Flexible attitude to assigned tasks and eager to take on new challenges
  • Dedicated to establishing excellent service levels and optimal operating conditions for our ships
