Purpose of Position


The Assistant Contractor Shore Excursions is an integral part of our Land Operations Department. His/her job is to assist the Senior Manager Purchasing Land Operations in contracting all land-based services. The main responsibility includes identifying new potential suppliers and negotiating contract conditions.

The Assistant Contractor Shore Excursions reports to the Senior Manager Purchasing. This role is based in our Operational Head Office in Basel, Switzerland. Thus, please note that we can only accept applicants who possess a valid Swiss work permit or who are eligible to work in Switzerland.
This role requires some travels (10% - max. 30%) within Europe.


RESPONSIBILITIES


• Identify new potential suppliers, agree and negotiate terms and conditions
• Visit existing suppliers across Europe (may be on short notice), establish and maintain strong business relationships with key suppliers
• Ensure services are contracted at the best price by benchmarking and comparison
• Foster excellent and close internal relationships with the different stakeholders
• Manage Viking Cruises’ Shore-ex Contracts database
• Address and resolve any standard/service level issues with suppliers
• Create contracts and purchasing agreements
• Contract part of the land-based services for river vessels
• Implement, execute and ensure quality and service standards
• Check and approve invoices for accounting
• Represent the department at internal and external meetings
• Continuous development of own personality

 

QUALIFICATION PROFILE


• High competency level in use of MS Office, in particular Excel and PowerPoint; Marine Exchange Program or any other procurement software is a plus
• Strong analytical skills
• Knowledge of the river cruise industry is a plus
• Fluent in English, both in written and spoken
• French or German skills are a plus
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Hands-on mentality
• Willing to learn and ambitious
• Excellent negotiation skills
• People-oriented and confident
• Proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results
