We are looking for Security Officer for Saga Cruises.

Details:

  • Salary starts from £/per annum (increases depending on experience) - TBA upon interview
  • Joining date end of November 2018 (for handover)
  • Previous passenger vessel experience ESSENTIAL
  • Contract lengths are 242 days (3 months on/6 weeks off)

Responsibilities as per V.Ships S&QMS:

  • Any task assigned by the Staff Captain.
  • To assist the following with their responsibilities as per V.Ships S&QMS;
  • Assist Safety Officer with Deck Department Responsibility 3 – Statutory Safety Officer*
  • Hazardous Occurrence Reporting, for approval by the Master. Including:
  • Incident and accident investigation, analysis and evaluation. Where appropriate, making recommendations to prevent recurrence and monitoring that any recommendations are acted upon.
  • Completion of associated reports (including SAF15 "Incident Report", SAF 13 "Passenger Accident Report" or SAF 14 "Crew Accident Report" as appropriate and also using the Company proprietary software management suite Shipsure for this when installed onboard, as detailed in a dedicated Local Working Instruction) for submission to the Company’s Safety and Insurance Departments and to the ship’s Safety, Health, Hygiene and Environmental Protection Committee (SHHEP COM) for review.
  • Near Miss investigation, analysis and evaluation. Where appropriate, making recommendations to prevent occurrence and monitoring that any recommendations are acted upon. Completion of associated reports (including SAF 11 "Near Miss Report" and also using the Company proprietary software management suite Shipsure for this when installed onboard, as detailed in a dedicated Local Working Instruction) for submission to the Company’s Safety Department and to the ship’s SHHEP COM for review.
  • Assist Safety Officer with Deck Department Responsibility 4 – Safety Training

This responsibility includes:

  • Conducting ship induction and training re SEP for all ship's personnel with particular reference to watertight doors, firefighting and lifesaving procedures and appliances.
  • Appraisal and training of all on board re occupational health and safety procedures including the Company’s Safety Management System (policy, procedures, instructions,
  • Standing orders, rules, regulations, etc.), the Code of Safe Working Practice (COSWOP) and the Code of Conduct.
  • Assist Staff Captain with Deck Department Responsibility 10 - Key System & Safes

Responsibility for:

  • The ship’s key system and the control and issue of master and sub-master keys.
  • Ensuring that locks not on the master key system are kept to an absolute minimum and are only used for high sensitivity / security spaces.
  • The ship’s safes.
  • Assist Staff Captain with Deck Department Responsibility 11 - Security
  • Responsibility for the security of the ship and all personnel. Ensuring that the Ship Security Plan is enforced and complied with. In particular:
  • Security of access points to the ship and perimeter protection.
  • Monitoring that good order is maintained by and among the ship’s staff, intervening or advising the Master and Senior Officers where applicable or necessary..
  • Monitoring passenger behaviour, intervening or advising the Master and Senior Officers where applicable or necessary.
  • Assist Staff Captain with Deck Department Responsibility 25 - Tender Operations
  • Assisting in tendering operations as required by the Staff Captain.

Additional Duties 

  • Security Incidents
  • The Security Officer is to assist the Staff Captain in the investigation aspect of crew or passenger involved in any security breaches /incidents including;
  • Conducting interviews
  • Collecting statements
  • Photographing the scene of incidents / accidents
  • Establishing Cause
  • Gangway security day to day operations
  • To monitor all embarking and disembarking passenger and crew to the vessel with valid and appropriate identifications
  • Port visitor applications and visitor passes
  • Shell doors
  • Pilot embarkation and disembarkation operation.
  • Responsible for all passenger and crew body and luggage search as per accordance to the SSP depending on the Security Level
  • Disembarking crew luggage search
  • Ensuring all security equipment available is in operational orders and maintained.
  • All bars onboard the vessels are regularly monitored and closed in timely manner.
  • Ensuring any purchased bottles of spirits/liquors are not in possession of the individual crew member and to be stowed away in a designated locker in the custody of the Crew Steward with records maintained.
  • Any prohibited items onboard when confiscated to be dealt and kept in custody until the person disembarks from vessel.
  • Maintain all security records of day to day operations .i.e. search logs, visitor log and DOS.
  • Alcohol Testing
  • Assist Staff Captain and conduct the Company’s monthly D&A test.
  • Calibration and testing of Alcohol Testing equipment as well as subsequent record keeping.
  • Security Training
  • Conducting Familiarisation Module 3.
  • Conducting the STCW trainings on TIER 2 and Security Awareness/Designated Security Duties trainings as requirements per the certificate matrix when required.
  • Coordinate, conduct and log security exercises as required
  • Pre-arrival ISPS forms and Security Voyage Report
  • Responsible to complete pre-arrival ISPS forms prior arrival to ports.
  • Responsible to complete Security Voyage Report for every cruise.
  • Restricted and Controlled Doors
  • Monitor and maintain all Restricted and Controlled Doors signage and conditions.
  • Maintain all the electronic pin codes changes on quarterly basis
  • Passenger and crew Loss & Damaged Reports
  • Responsible for any Loss and Damaged reported with the investigation aspect of passenger and crew personal effects. Assisting with cabin search and to help with Loss & Damaged forms of individuals
  • Passenger Accident investigation
  • The Security Officer is to assist the Safety Officer in the investigation aspect of passenger and crew accidents including;
  • Conducting interviews
  • Collecting statements
  • Photographing the scene of incidents / accidents
  • Establishing Cause
  • The Security Officer will not be responsible for entering this information into Shipsure.
  • Fire Rounds
  • Responsible for ensuring that Fire / Security rounds are performed, downloaded and logged into the Deck Log book on a daily basis and pertinent information are passed on to relevant persons.
