PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Purchasing Manager (Indirect) is responsible for sourcing all indirect categories, including IT Hardware, IT Software, Network and Telecommunication, Professional Services, Office Services and materials, and Travel services.

The main responsibility includes vendor and product identification, product specification together with the business, running tenders and RFQs, vendor negotiations, sourcing and contracting, monitor spend, plan, organize the purchasing operations with the different operating teams, and establish and update purchasing policies and procedures.

The Purchasing Manager will be part of Viking’s Purchasing team responsible for all sourcing across Viking’s river and ocean business, and will work closely with Viking’s IT department, HR department and Financial department, as well as the office management teams across Viking different offices.

The Purchasing Manager (Indirect) will report directly to the VP of Strategic Procurement and will be located in Basel, Switzerland. Some periodic travel to vendors, sites and cruise ships is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define product specification together with the business
  • Identify products and vendors
  • Launch tenders and RFQs
  • Conduct vendor negotiations and contracting
  • Conduct periodic spend and market analytics
  • Support the business in monitoring of budgets
  • Help identify alternative and local vendors
  • Establish purchasing policies together with the business
  • Establish purchasing operations processes and procedures
  • Oversee that day to day purchasing activities are in line with agreed procedures and policies as well as the terms and conditions of the contracts

QUALIFICATION PROFILE

  • 3 to 5 years’ of relevant experience in Strategic Procurement
  • Previous experience sourcing Indirect categories, with a spike in IT categories
  • Analytical mindset with a strong knowledge of Excel
  • A self-starter with a can-do mindset, with complete attention to detail
  • Flexibility and stress resistance, team player, commitment, positive personality, professional appearance
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Fluent in English, additional languages a plus.
  • Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering or another analytical field
