The role…

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a marine or electrical engineer with seagoing experience to join a busy Consultancy in London. The primary function of the role is to participate in the provision of Safe Return to Port assessments for its ship building and vessel operating clients.

Safe Return to Port is an initiative being developed under SOLAS by the IMO based on the philosophy that a ship is its own best lifeboat and that passenger ships should remain viable even after a serious incident. In this way the significant safety and environmental risks associated with evacuation can be avoided.

The role will be largely office-based but will require site visits during vessel construction and vessel visits during commissioning and operation.

The role also offers the opportunity for the successful candidate to work as part of our industry renowned team of engineers that provide advisory and system assessment services using the techniques of Failure Mode Effect Analysis to help their clients to ensure that their mission critical systems, such as dynamic positioning or crane systems, are designed, operated and maintained in a way that maximises availability and minimises the probability and consequence of failure.

This is an important role that can really make a difference to their clients by helping them to ensure that their critical systems operate safely and reliably when they need them most.

  • Participating in Mission Critical System assessment project delivery, including Safe Return to Port
  • Project management / Delivery / Reporting
  • Participating and supporting activities in other business streams as required.
  • Identify, document and pursue new and existing business opportunities for Mission Critical Systems sector
  • Development and maintenance of client relationships
  • Actively cross-sell full range of business stream services.
  • Maintain specified project overview for technical correctness
  • Assurance of high-quality standard for deliverables
  • To follow the group Business Management System.

The person…

  • To be a certified Marine Engineering Officer or Electrical Engineer
  • Ideally with experience in the provision of consultancy services
  • To have good report writing and excellent spoken communication skills in English
  • To have strong technical and commercial skills including a systematic approach to problem solving
  • To be a confident self-starter who works proactively
  • To be able to work independently and to work within a team
  • Experience working as an engine or electrical officer on cruise ships or SOLAS convention passenger ferries would be an advantage
  • Right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
  • Be able to obtain an offshore medical certificate
