POSITION SUMMARY

The First Electrician reports to the Chief Electrician and is his/her immediate deputy. Under the direction of the Chief Electrician, the First Electrician assists with the maintenance, administration, supervision, and safe operation of all onboard electrical systems including main engine room equipment & machinery, Azipods, elevators, GMDSS equipment, navigation equipment, internal communications, broadcast and networking equipment, safety equipment and security equipment. In carrying out his / her duties, the First Electrician will work in close co-operation with the Hotel and Nautical Departments to ensure the highest standards of safety, security, public health, environmental compliance, and service to Ladies and Gentlemen, is maintained. Promotes that all Gold Standards and Brand Culture are embraced by the team at all times, particularly when assisting guests and Ladies and Gentlemen.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Maintains the highest professional standards and consideration for the experience of our guests and Ladies and Gentlemen onboard in performing repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting on electrical/electronic equipment, installations and machinery
  2. Ensuring compliance with the Safety Management System and performs regular maintenance on elevators, hotel equipment, deck machinery, engine room machinery, lifeboats, tenders and Zodiacs when required
  3. Maintains and troubleshoots safety, alarm and control devices for High Voltage and Low Voltage switchboards, propulsion equipment including prime movers, bridge equipment and safety systems
  4. Performs routine maintenance and reporting in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System
  5. Responsible for ensuring Public Health electrical installations are maintained to the highest standards and with uninterrupted service
  6. Supports and understudies the Chief Electrician, is able to fulfil the role of Chief Electrician at any time
  7. Assists the Refrigeration Engineer with repairs and problem solving with HVAC and machinery space related electrical installations within hotel related areas
  8. Present for maneuvering as and when requested by Chief Engineer or Chief Electrician, along with any other duties as assigned by Chief Electrician
  9. Supports newbuild operations to include work in the shipyard as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to position
  2. Shipboard High Voltage Training
  3. Diesel Electric Propulsion Certificate of Completion
  4. Three (3) years' previous experience as cruise vessel First Electrician, previous shipbuilding experience preferred
  5. Excellent command of the English Language
  6. Exceptional knowledge of modern luxury shipboard equipment, systems, and operations

PHYSICAL & LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and coworkers.
