We are currently recruiting for Officer In Charge of Engineering Watch (OICEW) ready to join Research-Survey vessel
Applicants must have a combination of Yacht and conventional vessel experience.
The vessel will be operated as a research vessel with yacht standard.
Embarkation is to be confirmed - probably end of February 2020
Salary in USD/per month worked - TBD upon interview
Contract approx. 12 weeks on / 6 weeks off

Introduction

  • This job description applies to the vessel's Officer In Charge of Engineering Watch (OICEW).

Minimum qualification requirements

  • The OICEW's qualifications shall as a minimum be in line with flag state requirements.

Reporting

  • Chief Engineer.

Authority

  • The OICEW is responsible to the Chief Engineer and has the authority to take action and make decisions on his watch according to the Masters Standing Orders and Chief Engineer instructions,.

Responsibility

The OICEW has the daily responsibility of his watch and his main duties are:

  • Perform machinery operations according to the Engine Operations procedures
  • Assist in maintenance of the technical machinery and arrangements on board according to the Quality and Safety Management System, corresponding Planned Maintenance System and Continuous Machinery Survey regulations with special attention to the condition of:
  • Engine room systems such as the:
    • Main engines propulsion system
    • Auxiliary engine system
    • Steering and maneuvering systems
    • Electrical and hydraulic power distribution and control systems
    • Detection and alarm systems
    • Fuel oil tanks and bunkering system
    • Lubrication oil tanks and system
    • Bilge and Sludge handling system
    • Sewage handling system
  • In co-operation with the Chief Engineer and Chief Officer, the:
    • Ballast- and freshwater pumping and piping systems
    • Mooring and anchoring windlass systems
    • Cranes and lifting appliances systems
  • On his watch supervise the actions of the engine crew
  • During watch perform stated recording in logbooks and other applicable records
  • Assist to keep and follow up the spare part inventory according to TM-Master Spare Part Control System
  • See to that the engine room spaces and control room are clean and tidy
  • Prepare a proper hand-over note for the joining OICEW according to stated hand-over procedure

Participate in any emergency duties according to the vessel's Muster Plan, Shipboard Contingency Plan and Shipboard Security Plan, and assist the master in drills and emergency training of the crew.

  • The OICEW shall be well familiarized with the Quality and Safety Management System and beware of all procedures and instructions related to his responsibility and tasks. He shall also be a motivator to rest of the crew with special attention to the personnel related to the engine room department.
  • The OICEW has the responsibility to ensure the validity of his personal certificates and qualifications according to the competence procedure
