PURPOSE OF POSITION

Viking Expedition is a new leg of Viking Cruises to deliver expedition cruises in destinations previously not operated by Viking Cruises. For any guest, photography is often a major part of their holiday experience. Viking Expeditions’ once-in-a lifetime remote destinations bring an even bigger focus in photography. 

The Expedition Photographer role has a strong component in the guest’s education and enrichment, delivering lectures, workshops and assisting guests with their equipment.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Skills

  • Familiarized with the destination and it’s flora and fauna 
  • Works well under pressure 
  • Smart, presentable, friendly and excellent teaching and people skills 
  • Good computer & Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc) 
  • English speaking and writing to a high standard 
  • Familiarized with different brands of cameras, lenses, filters and their general maintenance and troubleshooting. 
  • Solid knowledge of Lightroom, Photoshop and other post-production software

General Duties 

  • Manage the “Photography Studio” 
  • Administrate and curate the guest photography sharing platform 
  • Embrace a positive sharing of pictures with guests 
  • Deliver photography presentations and workshops 
  • Host informal sessions with guests both onboard the ship and during activities 
  • Provide daily a few pictures to the Assistant Expedition Program Coordinator, reflecting the day’s experiences and activities 
  • Take part in off-ship excursions as directed by the Assistant Expedition Leader, leading onshore photography sessions  
  • Be present in guest areas and mingle with guests 
  • Assist the marketing department or other departments with any picture or list of pictures requirements 
  • Create a slideshow or small video to be displayed at the end of the voyage and for guests to keep as a memento of their unforgettable voyage  
  • Assist in any other general duties assigned by the Expedition Admin Team

  • Reports to the Expedition Program Coordinator onboard the ship and Assistant Expedition Leader during off-ship activities

  • Work with the Expedition Admin Team providing training and mentorship to all staff

Your profile 

  • Previous experience in similar role or demonstrated experience in the Expedition Cruise Industry 
  • Good administration & organization 
  • Proactive problem solving 
  • Teamwork and good communication 
  • Well organized, efficient and positive

  • Understand guest needs

  • Reliable and pressure resistant 
  • Proactive in upholding Viking standards of excellence 
  • Enthusiastic team member 
  • Marine Radio Operator’s license or equivalent 
  • Drone piloting license - preferential

Guidelines and Regulations 

  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures & STAR Service Standards within the department. 
  • Ensure appropriate appearance and clothing according to the updated Grooming Standards. 
  • For work in Polar Regions: have passed the appropriate and most recent field staff online assessment of IAATO/AECO.
