KiwiRail has committed to modernise the Interislander Cook Strait ferry service with the procurement of two new rail enabled ships that will provide a fit-for-purpose service which is safe, reliable, resilient meeting New Zealand's transport needs now and into the future. Named the Inter-Island Resilient Connection (iReX) Project, its purpose is to transform Cook Strait assets and operations to provide Great Journeys and secure freight connections for a Better New Zealand.

Your Role:

The new ships will be larger and more technologically advanced than the existing ships to enable KiwiRail to meet current and future customer needs. As such, we are recruiting a first-rate Electro-Technical Superintendent to be the subject matter expert (SME) in for all marine electrical and electronic engineering matters relating to the ships programme.

As a key team member in the ships programme, you will work closely with the shipyards and naval architects to provide input, feedback, review and approval of the ships' design technical documentation. You will proactively engage with the onboard team to seek out their advice and input during the design phase.

As the programme progresses to build phase, you will also be required to travel and be the on-site representative at the shipyard, therefore you must be comfortable with international travel for prolonged periods of time.

Your Skills:

You'll have experience either working as a, or managing a team of, Electro-technical Officers (ETO) on large passenger or ro-pax vessels. Experience and knowledge working with diesel electric propulsion systems is highly advantageous.
