Faststream Recruitment has entered into an exclusive partnership with MSC Cruises to recruit and hire the new build site teams across Europe who will be critical in MSC's extensive cruise ship new build programme.
Job Purpose
The Specialist, Bridge and Nautical Equipment oversees the Navigational Bridge Equipment installation , providing supervision and acceptance to all the apparatus and systems fitted during the construction and support to drawing approval. Follow up the Navigational Bridge equipment Guarantee Claims after the ship delivery. As area leader, he/she is the main point of reference for all related matters with the Fleet Operation Department, Manager of Ship's Construction, shipyard and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees the installation of the Bridge equipment and Safety related equipment installed on the Bridge as per approved drawing and International and Company regulation.
- Participates to the Manufacturer FAT and provides feedback to the Fleet Operations Department.
- Coordinates and monitors the daily work of the inspectors who belong to their team and resolves issues as identified by the team during inspections with the support of the Fleet Operations Department;
- Supervises and coordinates installation of work in accordance with the contract documents, project schedule and the Planned sequence of work;
- Has thorough knowledge of the contract document and the scope of work;
- Is the main point of reference for all related matters with the Manager Ship's Construction and Fleet Operations Department, shipyard, suppliers;
- Periodically reports and updates the Fleet Operations Department with regards to the work progress and related matters;
- Ensures that all the bridge and nautical equipment and systems are safe to operate, installed according to the manufacturers specification and with reasonable access for future maintenance and repair;
- Acts proactively in enforcing that remarks, defects and other non-conformities identified from past projects, or from Vessels in operation as per info received by the Fleet Operations Department, or from a guarantee claim relevant to equipment, systems, installations and workmanship / quality are being addressed to the ship yard and followed through during the inspection or commissioning process;
- Applies knowledge of equipment capability and develops plans for optimum utilization and future revisions reporting them to the Fleet Operations Department;
- Provides and shares knowledge with the new Bridge Team, about the operational aspect and best uses of the equipment installed;
- Follows up, coordinates and supervises the Bridge Equipment Guarantee CLAIMS after the ship delivery;
- Participates in workshop with the Fleet Operations Department to discuss, evaluate, improve and optimize arrangement design and installation of new or retroffitted vessel.
Job-Requirements: skills, competencies, experience
- Fluency in English, knowledge of Italian (or French) is a plus;
- Marine Engineering or previous working experience on Bridge equipment installation or Master License with extensive experience on Cruise Vessels;
- Significant experience running inspections in shipyards for activities of shipbuilding or refurbishment, with some experience in leading a team;
- Competent and experienced on the Technical side of the Bridge Equipment (such as but not limited to: INS, Fire System, SMCS, GMDSS and Radio equipment, VDR, Steering and Propulsion control, Internal Communication system);
- Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office (including Excel, MS Word, MS Project or equivalent and PowerPoint);
- Ability to review new building specifications and drawings;
- Ability to work in a cross cultural environment and communicate with internal/external stakeholders at all level;
- Problem solving and a 'can do' attitude;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Availability to travel as needed and work long hours under pressure, especially close to ship's delivery.
