The Environmental Engineer will manage all environmental technical projects and upgrades, including designing new and innovative pollution prevention systems to enhance the current program and partnering and influencing shipboard leadership to ensure seamless implementation of new systems/processes. They will also ensure compliance with all maritime environmental regulations and MSC requirements related to Pollution Prevention Equipment, operator training, and operations. The successful candidate will prepare, track and analyse project data, provide updates, and handle the recommendations to the VP of the Engine Department on new system designs to enhance current operations. This position will also have a dotted reporting line for all Shipboard Environmental Engineers.


  • Air Emissions: Analyses current equipment used, including designing and developing new systems by adding or removing parts and supervising to maintain the critical spares inventory optimization. He / She will be an active part in the study of the alternative technology to replace incineration. Recapitalizing the recycling centre & incinerator optimization review (utilization and maintenance);
  • Ensures the correct functioning of equipment and plants installed on board (environmental section);
  • Supervises dry-docks and in-service upgrades of the environmental mean;
  • Provides technical support to the Vessel in case of issues (environmental plants);
  • Overall Project Management: analyses and proposes new system designs to enhance current processes across various environmental system upgrades and trials (i.e., review and recommend environmental project/program requisitions and purchase orders for approved project vendors). Acts as the Company liaison for all vendor-related issues and negotiates all invoice issues and discrepancies. Utilises e-system to optimize environmental system availability/reliability for all ships;
  • Collects data pertaining to ship operations and broader environmental operations programs. Follows Newbuilding Environmental Specification Development;
  • Sampling: Assists, tracks, coordinates, and analyses services for onboard environmental sampling (incinerator ash, wastewater, etc.). Monitors results trends to ensure that proactive maintenance of environmental equipment is done;
  • Maintains daily contact with Chief Engineers/Staff Engineers;
  • Attends the F.A.T. (Factory Acceptance Test) for Environmental equipment and plants;
  • Performs periodic visits onboard Vessels during operation periods and dry docks;
  • Cooperates constantly with the Environmental Dept. to update rules and drafting of guidelines for their application onboard Vessels.


  • Excellent English verbal and written abilities;
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management/Engineering or extensive experience in the maritime industry;
  • Licensed marine engineer / Professional Engineer background;
  • •5 years with a degree and 10 without a degree;
  • In depth knowledge of shipboard engineering systems and operations;
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and specific business system (databases/software) skills.
