Faststream Recruitment has entered into an exclusive partnership with MSC Cruises to recruit and hire across MSC's extensive cruise ship new build programme. MSC Cruises are now seeking a Plan Approval Engineer for their UK HQ in Uxbridge.

JOB PURPOSE The successful Plan Approval/Technical Support Engineer will be responsible for being an expert within the marine engineering discipline for plan approval activities. The purpose of this role is to provide, manage, and apply technical expertise in Marine Engineering for the design, construction, and conversion of passenger vessels and the operation of the existing fleet.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

•Assists the Marine Engineering Technical Department area of expertise in meetings and visits with stakeholders;
•Receives and acts on feedback on vessels' performance in service;
•Collaborates in the design development of systems and evaluation of equipment specifications to ensure that all statutory, Company safety, and operational standards and requirements are observed throughout;
•Manages own workflow in reviewing specifications, drawings, diagrams, and technical submissions according to st < UNK> procedures;
•Monitors the construction or conversion of MSC Vessel to ensure that the work in the shipyards follows the approved drawings and specifications and complies with all acceptable marine standards;
•Supports the commissioning of the ships by participating in factory acceptance tests, mock-up inspections, and other significant testing activities;
•Assists in establishing and maintaining a database of marine engineering area reference standards and material reference library;
•Defines, approves, and specifies technical documentation for cruise ship vessels ensuring compliance with contractual agreements;
•Understands the risk mitigation measures embedded in the contract and supports the New Building Technical Director when they need to be implemented;
•Approves minor technical adjustments as may be found necessary on-site and advises the New Building Technical Director of the changes accordingly;
•Liaises with the New Building Technical Director in continually updating the specifications of the vessels under construction or conversion to ensure that accurate records of all changes are maintained and that on delivery or re-delivery of the vessels, an "as fitted" specification is available;
•Provides technical input on warranty failure claims in conjunction with the Guarantee Engineer;
•Supports in developing procedures and schedules for the inspection and testing of the equipment and systems and subsequent protection against damage and misuse.

QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience)

•Ability to assimilate, critically examine, and analyse technical information and make informed recommendations where appropriate;
•Ability to respect given deadlines;
•Ability to write cogent and precise technical reports and letters;
•Ability to present technical and commercial arguments effectively;
•Ability to understand the underlying (naval) architectural principles behind issues under negotiation and to demonstrate the practical application and feasibility of what is being recommended by MSC Cruises;
•Ability to understand reasonable requirements of the company operating departments and actively build good relationships;
•Sensitivity to commercial considerations;
•Ability to prioritise work and adapt the pace of work to business demands;
•Good level of IT skills, particularly AutoCAD, Excel (including use of formulas, charts, and tables), PowerPoint, and Word.
