Assignment

The Hotel Services Engineer (HSE) is responsible for the maintenance and overall condition of all Hotel, Deck and crew accommodation related machinery and systems.

If the vessel's organizational structure does not contain a Hotel Services Engineer, the Chief Engineer must assign his tasks and responsibilities to other engineers in his standing orders.

The Hotel Services Engineer is responsible for:

  1. Supporting the Staff Captain and Chief Officer in the preventive maintenance of the deck machinery and equipment thus ensuring safe and reliable operations;
  2. The preventative maintenance, readiness and overall condition of all systems relating to the vessels watertight integrity;
  3. Providing the Safety Officer with the necessary Engineering advice and assistance required to carry out the preventive maintenance, inspection, testing and repair of all safety equipment Life Saving Appliances;
  4. The preventative maintenance, readiness and overall condition of Fixed Fire Fighting Appliances in Hotel and Deck spaces;
  5. Preventative maintenance and overall condition of the Recreational Water Facilities and associated equipment as per the Water Safety Plan;
  6. Working closely with the Chief Electrician to maintain the Elevators, Galley and laundry equipment;
  7. Maintenance of the potable, sanitary and waste water distribution systems as per the Water Safety Plan and international sanitation requirements;
  8. Preventative maintenance and overall condition of the vessels Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems;
  9. Leading the officers and ratings assigned to his area of responsibility in executing maintenance and repairs;
  10. Ensuring that the officers and ratings assigned to his area of responsibility are familiar with the Company's Management System relevant to their duties and responsibilities;
  11. Motivating the officers and ratings assigned to his area of responsibility in executing their duties according to the Company's Management System;
  12. Ensuring that a robust Safety & Health culture and Environmental & Energy awareness is encouraged and maintained;
  13. Ensuring that activities are well planned, organized and safeguards established against all identified risks;
  14. Ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are implemented in a timely and effective manner;
  15. Ensuring organisation and stowage of spares and consumables, and compliance with stock control requirements;
  16. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer occurrences that could either directly or indirectly lead to an adverse effect on Quality, Safety, Health, Environment, Security operational capability or reliability;
  17. Reviewing the Company’s Management System on a regular basis and reporting to the Chief Engineer proposals for improvement.

The Hotel Services Engineer reports and is accountable to the Chief Engineer.
