POSITION SUMMARY
The Pool & Fountain Technician is responsible for maintaining the water chemistry, water quality, filtration, dosing, and mechanical functions of all onboard pool, jacuzzi, fountain, and aqua-related equipment (including pumps, filters, chemical dosing systems, and associated machinery). Ensuring all aqua systems operate in compliance with USPH maintenance and reporting standards. The technician maintains all related machinery and equipment in excellent working condition to provide safe and enjoyable aqua venues for guests and crew.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean Group's The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies. Employees may be required to perform functions across various venues and areas on the ship.

  • Responsible for maintaining all pools, Jacuzzis, fountains, flowriders, and related technical equipment, including pipe and hose replacement and mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Maintain water chemistry, operational reports, and documentation required by USPH and SQM standards.
  • Must be Shipboard Pool Technician certified (COP certification is also acceptable).
  • Perform routine and unplanned maintenance to keep aqua venues fully operational.
  • Daily reporting to the Facilities Manager (or to the FM Repair Supervisor Aqua for Freedom & Genesis class vessels) to ensure aqua venues are ready for operation.
  • Coordinate with relevant authorities (FM, Bridge, or ECCR) for draining and refilling pools and Jacuzzis.
  • Immediately notify the Facilities Manager or supervisor of any safety, security, or operational issues related to equipment or systems.
  • Attend meetings, training activities, courses, and other work-related events as required.
  • Assist with shipboard repair and plumbing activities as needed in emergencies or special circumstances.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, acknowledging that this description does not encompass all possible responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Hiring Requirements:

  • Previous supervisory experience in a water park or aqua venue environment is essential.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience maintaining water-related equipment in a water park or similar setting, with at least three years in a supervisory role.
  • Expertise in maintenance of water pumps, filtration, water chemistry, and monitoring equipment.
  • Strong customer service skills aligned with The Royal Way when interacting with guests and team members.
  • Ability to learn and apply policies related to human resources, safety, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to supervise and motivate a team of repair personnel, conducting coaching and counseling as needed.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree.

Language Requirements:

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English to interpret procedures and communicate effectively.
  • Additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, handle equipment, reach, talk, hear, and smell.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capable of lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills, including lowering lifeboats, with full use of arms, legs, and sensory functions.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
