The Portrait Artist manages the onboard high-end Perspectives Studio to give our guests a highly personalized experience producing fine art portraits that will thrill them.
The Portrait Artist must demonstrate a wide range of portraiture and candid photography skills under studio and natural light conditions as photo sessions take place in the studio, around the ship and even ashore in our exotic destinations.
The Portrait Artist creates a personalized experience providing exceptional guest service while working in an emotional charged sales environment. This role provides a significant and important part of the overall departmental revenue.
They will work very closely with and receive support from the Photo Manager and Assistant Photo Managers to ensure the product and experience is executed correctly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Consistently exceed revenue budget and guest ratings for the Perspective Studio by building strong rapport with guests, delivering high guest experience and provide the highest levels of product and services.
  • Effectively communicates all relevant options to guests while using effective booking/sales techniques.
  • Maintain the studio and all equipment used for Perspectives program. Keep the studio to a high professional standard of organization and cleanliness. Takes accountability for correctly protecting issued equipment and company assets through proper handling and security procedures.
  • Work to short deadlines and complete all session bookings and orders as required.
  • Be present at and participate proactively in all Photo Department Team Meetings in conjunction with the Photo Manager.
  • Practice, implement and respectively listen to all feedback and training being received from the Management.
  • Lead the Photo team to improve their skills and continuously improve booking quality.
  • Positively and proactively drive the Photo Team to make consistent high-quality bookings for the studio and always lead by example.
  • Create a cruise plan for each voyage, identifying activities that will generate the guest interactions, bookings, sessions, and sales consultations to generate the budget.
  • Provide end of cruise analysis, reporting and sales information in an accurate and timely manner to both onboard and shoreside management.
  • Check company emails daily, responding when required in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with and participate in workshops, seminars and presentations with Guests as scheduled by the Photo Manager.
  • Interacts with guests directly at various events, observing and identifying Guest Preference and adjusting service, accordingly, anticipating guest needs, and engaging in conversation while showing genuine interest.
  • Always respond immediately to any Guest service issues, escalating to Photo Manager if necessary.
  • Effectively handle guest requests and questions (Perspectives Studio, photo department and general shipboard issues) while seeking assistance from Photo Management for any questions unable to answer confidently.
  • Uses POS to accurately charge each transaction.
  • Consistently produce correctly exposed, focused, and composed images, meeting Perspectives Studio standards.
  • Travel to locations in the ports of call during the cruise to photograph guests in the local environments, and capture professional, high quality, images.
  • Shoot Wedding, Vow Renewal or other special ceremonies as required.
  • Edit shoots and place orders each cruise within the specified deadlines in SOP.
  • Demonstrate confidence in execution of all Perspectives Studio services seeking immediate guidance from Photo Manager and/or the Fleet Perspectives Manager when unsure of anything and prior to giving Guests misinformation.
  • Always maintain professional, effective, and motivated working relationships
  • Always performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, and other internal, external, and governmental regulation as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to use a range of photographic equipment, including but not limited to digital SLR cameras, portrait studio equipment, Light Meters, computers and image editing software
  • Advanced knowledge in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, ProSelect and intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and MXP are required.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in portrait photography and sales is required.
  • Minimum three (3) months experience in Photo Department onboard international cruise ships.
  • Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or Foreign Equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree, professional certification or foreign equivalent in a related field from a recognized educational institution is strongly preferred.
