PURPOSE OF POSITION
- The Video Technician sets up, runs, and maintains the video equipment for all entertainment venues on the ship.
- It is your responsibility to create a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure guest satisfaction and repeat business, which in turn, will increase the revenue and profitability of the company.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Train with the Broadcast Manager and demonstrate the ability to temporarily take over the Broadcast Manager’s role, when necessary, assist the Stage Management Team, when required and as approved by the Cruise Director and Broadcast Manager.
- Film and edit the Viking Today, Port Talks, and Enrichment Lectures; film the Viking Daily, as required.
- Set up and operate video equipment for assigned shows; check all equipment before each show.
- Program the show control computer in preparation for technical rehearsals, as assigned
- Maintain a show report log for each performance; ensure that the show set-up is complete and exact, as per company policy and procedures; ensure that the design integrity and performance quality are maintained through show runs; switch video sources, when necessary.
- Communicate in a clear, concise, and timely manner with the Stage Manager and other departments.
- Participate in special events by assisting with video needs; report broken or faulty equipment and update inventories monthly; assist with the maintenance of video equipment; maintain cleanliness and order in all sound areas, in accordance with all Public Health and Safety Policies and Procedures; attend all show set-ups, show calls, and meetings, in a timely manner.
- Hands-on participation to assist with set-up and breakdown of stage equipment as required by the Stage Manager for events around the vessel. Assist with daily ship events (lectures, documentaries, etc.) as required by the Stage Manager with the approval of the Cruise Director or Broadcast Manager.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and report any issues, concerns, and suggestions to the Broadcast Manager.
- Provide the highest level of comfort and service to guests, as per Viking’s STAR Service Standards and all Public Health Policies.
- Participate in “The Daily Reunion” every day to understand your team’s operational needs and to ensure consistent adherence to Viking’s STAR Service Standards.
- Ensure you always wear the appropriate and task-specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for your duties onboard. Always use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
- Uphold impeccable grooming standards at all times by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards.
- Ensure that company property is appropriately secured and protected, especially during rough weather conditions, in order to prevent unnecessary loss or damage.
- Demonstrate outstanding flexibility: must be able to work at different times of the day, under pressure, and reflect a positive can-do attitude and the best image of Viking at all times.
- Become knowledgeable about itinerary-related ports of call, shore excursions, and shipboard activities such as events, entertainment, and programs.
- Have strong motivation to achieve the company goals and objectives (quality and financial) for the Entertainment Department.
- Have full knowledge about safety & security procedures and can operate in line with all Public Health, Environmental, and Safety & Security Policies; participate in all training concerning onboard training, safety & security, fire prevention, and evacuation exercises as required by the company.
- Perform additional duties, upon instruction from the Cruise Director and Broadcast Manager.

YOUR PROFILE
- Must have strong video knowledge (specifically the front and rear projection and large format LED displays) in which basic show control programming has been applied; shipboard experience is preferred.
- Experience in a TV Studio, Video Production Company, Theater Production Company, or similar position onboard is required; additional experience in Broadcasting, IT, and/or Communications and Networking is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Production, Media Production, Television Production, or Film Production is required. Training and education in video playback and projection systems will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Must demonstrate the ability to operate professional broadcast cameras such as Sony PXWZ150 and edit with Apple Final Cut Pro X, as well as handling basic machinery, hand tools and various projectors, video displays, servers, switches, routers, a wide range of A/V and data connectors, and control system components.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team and have a creative flare to film and edit videos.
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, kneel, or crouch for a long period of time, and to climb up ladders and scaffolding, is required.
- Must be able to navigate catwalks and access all points in all theater spaces; a strong understanding of browser-based software & IP protocol is required.
- Fluent in English - must be able to address any kind of information in an adequate manner with excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Strong administration skills are preferred and must be proficient with PC-based databases, spreadsheets, word processing systems, Watchout, and other software, as it becomes available.
- Flexible, stress-resistant, committed team player, and exceptional work ethic is required.
- Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance, and impeccable hygiene standards, with excellent knowledge of all Public Health and Safety Policies are required.

- Ensure appropriate appearance and clothing according to the updated Grooming Standards.
