The Assistant Electrician 1 is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, diagnosis, installation, repair, and testing of all electrical equipment onboard the vessel. All duties are performed in accordance with Company Policies, Public Health standards, and relevant national and international regulations, ensuring the highest levels of safety and performance.
This role requires working closely with superiors and peers to understand and uphold the company’s environmental policies, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Repair lighting and power outlets throughout the ship.
- Perform minor repairs on all shipboard appliances, including but not limited to;
- Emergencyand navigation lighting systems.
- Galleyand pantry equipment.
- Provisionequipment.
- Laundrymachinery (main laundry, guest, and crew laundries).
- Dining,bar, and housekeeping pantry equipment.
- Roomsdivision equipment.
- Communicate proactively with the Chief Electrician and 1st Electrician about stock levels and spare parts inventory.
- Assist in developing onboard operational plans aligned with technical, legislative, safety, and procedural standards to support maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with the Hotel Department to minimize operational impact during maintenance activities.
- Report completed maintenance tasks to the Chief Electrician for documentation in the planned maintenance system.
- Ensure safe maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical systems in compliance with Company policies and regulations, including:
- Cleaningand servicing electrical equipment.
- Assistingwith electric motor overhauls.
- Keep the Chief Electrician and 1st Electrician informed of issues and progress through daily communication.
- Maintain accurate logbooks and documentation of all activities.
- Ensure compliance with Company, Public Health, National, and international standards; report any instances of non-compliance.
- Uphold grooming and uniform standards as per Company policies.
- Promote good discipline and conduct within the Engine Department and across other departments.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications &Training:
- Valid STCW certification.
- Valid Certificate of Competency (CoC).
- Solid understanding of all electrical equipment onboard.
- Extensive experience in similar roles on passenger ships.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding technical drawings.
Language Requirements:
- Proficiency in reading and writing in English for understanding procedures and documentation.
- Ability to give and receive instructions effectively in both written and verbal forms.
- Capable of clearly presenting information and responding to questions from guests, colleagues, and supervisors.
Physical & EnvironmentalRequirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, handle tools, reach, talk, hear, and taste/smell regularly.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity including close, distance, colour, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to focus.
- Must be physically capable of participating in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, including lowering lifeboats.
- Able to work in various environments, including noisy engine control rooms and engine spaces.
- Flexibility to work irregular schedules and overtime if required.
- Candidates must be committed to safety and environmental standards.
- Work involves physical activity and exposure to challenging environments.
