Job Purpose
An exciting opportunity exists for a talented Onboard Marketing Specialist to join our newly created luxury travel brand Explora Journeys. This role is based in or office in Milan.
The Onboard Marketing Specialist – Guest Communications is responsible for the accuracy, consistency, and aesthetic excellence of all non-revenue guest-facing communications onboard, ensuring every printed touchpoint reflects Explora Journeys’ luxury standards and supports a seamless, intuitive guest journey.
Working in close collaboration with onboard operations and corporate teams, this position acts as a guardian of clarity, consistency, and brand expression across the ship.
Key Accountabilities
Daily Guest Communications
• Review all guest-facing messaging to ensure clarity, tone-of-voice consistency, and alignment with brand guidelines expected within a luxury hospitality environment.
• Manage and update the content library across printed formats, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and brand alignment.
• Maintain full ownership of daily guest-facing informational content, supporting an effortless and intuitive onboard experience.
Cross-Functional Onboard Support
• Serve as the primary daily point of contact for onboard Desktop Publisher teams, managing and prioritising non-revenue communication requests across hotel and marine operations with speed, accuracy, and sensitivity to guest perception.
• Brief and coordinate external agencies on the creation and production of brochures, signage, and other non-revenue promotional materials, ensuring alignment with brand standards.
Guest Experience Quality Control
• Oversee all non-revenue printed collateral, including in-suite materials, directional signage, maintenance notices, pool and deck signage, and menus, ensuring an elegant and unobtrusive guest experience.
• Map and maintain all non-revenue in-suite and public-area communication touchpoints to ensure consistency and guest ease.
Content Management & Systems
• Own all non-revenue text and imagery updates within the CMS and content library, ensuring consistency across all platforms.
• Guarantee the precision and quality of English-language content and oversee translations into core languages for an international luxury guest audience.
• Manage situational response and ad-hoc communications with discretion and speed, maintaining guest confidence and brand integrity.
Print & Production Ownership
• Monitor all onboard printing operations, including printer management, printing guidelines, stationery standards, and paper inventory.
• Ensure print quality, consistency, and appropriate material selection across all outputs.
• Accountable for the complete file system and organization of all printed onboard materials, ensuring all collateral, templates, and versions remain structured, accessible, and fully up‑to‑date
Continuous Improvement
• Analyse competitor benchmarks within the luxury cruise and hospitality sector to identify opportunities for refinement and innovation.
• Proactively identify efficiencies and elevate the effectiveness of onboard guest communications.
Qualifications, experiences and skills
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in marketing, communications, or desktop publishing; luxury hospitality or cruise industry experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
• Previous experience onboard cruise ships as a Desktop Publisher and/or onboard printer is considered a strong advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign essential) and Microsoft Office.
• Exceptional attention to detail with a strong understanding of print production, layouts, and material finishes.
• Highly organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
