Ensures upkeep of ship’s furniture and upholstery according to OCI standards
- Working Hours - Breaks:
- Working Hours are 8:00am until 6:00pm
- Coffee Break 10:00 to 10:30
- Lunch 12:00 to 13:00
- Short Coffee Break 15:00
Responsibility and Authority
- Guest Experience
- Demonstrates genuine concern for guests’ wellbeing at all times;
- Operational and Administrative
- Does re-upholstery and varnish when required
- Repairs broken furniture
- Assists Housekeeping on turnaround days for emergency maintenance inside staterooms and suites. (loose hinges, scratches on furniture, silicon in showers/ bathtubs, etc)
- Participates in weekly inspections of public areas together with General Manager, Chief Purser, Chief Housekeeper, and Staff Captain.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of all fabrics, tools available on board
- Installs carpets and wall paper when required
- Assists guests with repairing broken luggage, bags, shoes etc as required by the Chief Purser.
- Performs all other duties as requested by supervisor.
- The Upholsterer submits a daily maintenance report form VOM 19.01.16 Upholsterer Record Form describing the type of work performed and the number of hours worked. The report is verified and signed by the Chief Housekeeper.
Note: the upholsterer reports directly to the General Manager. The Chief Housekeeper and Chief Purser are authorized by the General Manager to verbally assign small “emergency tasks’’ when ever necessary. All big jobs are planned by the General Manager following instructions from shore side Hotel Operations. The Upholsterers will only execute verbal orders from the above referenced officers. All AVOs must be addressed to the Staff Captain as per established shipboard procedure. If necessary, and only on special circumstances, the upholsterers may help the Staff Captain if approved by the General Manager.

- Monitor the practical application of the Company's policy, procedures and instructions.
- Immediately report to the Master any instances where the vessel is unable or fails to comply with any Company’s policy, procedure, instruction, and any safety, environmental, or security requirement.
- Participate in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions from ship’s command;
- Complies with company safety and pollution prevention regulations;
Education and Experience
- Must be fluent in English. Be able to perform basic geometrical and numerical calculations. Have a proven background of Upholstery and Carpentry experience with sufficient knowledge of fabrics and materials related to this field.
- Understanding of the highest level of service;
- Outgoing personality, open minded and flexible;
- Ability to work in an international environment;
- Ability to perform well under pressure;
- Impeccable grooming and excellent social skills;
- Well organized;
