Your Purpose

The Chief Security Officer is a member of the Security team , belong to the Security department in charge to coordinate the Shipboard Security team and ensure the security of the ship and the implementation of the Ship Security Plan and the Security Standard Procedure, is also the shipboard Investigator for what concern the management of the Security Incidents

Your Impact

 Maintain security of the ship and the implementation of the SSP and Standard Procedures

 Responsible for gangway security and access control .

 Responsible for security screening of passengers, crew and visitors’ belongings and personal effects to prevent dangerous and prohibited items being brought onto the vessel.

 Operate an effective rotation of staff to ensure surveillance of the ship, in port and at sea.

 Compile the Daily Security Report (DSR) and submit to the SSO .

 Organise and direct security patrols of Restricted, Controlled and Vulnerable areas.

 Organise and direct patrols of passenger areas as required by ships command .

 Investigates crimes, incidents and safeguarding matters .

 Compiling statements and reports.

 Reporting all crimes, incidents and safeguarding matters onto the Security Incident Reporting Platform (SIRP).

 Responsible for ensuring security training and drills are conducted with the security team.

 Responsible for ensuring that each member of the security team completes the required training and inductions as per the Security Familiarisation Form.

 Responsible for ensuring that the Use of Force Security Standard Procedure is implemented, and all members of the Security Team are in possession of the NFPS Ltd Level 2 Physical Restraint/Intervention certificate.

 Responsible for ensuring that testing, calibration and maintenance of security equipment is carried out as required by procedures.

 Conduct searches of baggage of any disembarking shipboard personnel

 Attend the meetings with the Ship’s Command to review proceedings and information .

 Display a professional approach and supervise the team to ensure its professional attitude .

 Support the Deputy Chief Security Officer, seeking promotion to Chief Security Officer to develop the required knowledge, skills and experience.

Your Journey So Far

 STCW of Security Guard as per ISPS Code and all certification in force at engagement time.

 Fully conversant with International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) .

 NFPS Ltd Level 2 Physical Restraint/Intervention certificate .

 Fully qualified with a proven record of competence for the position .

 Proven skills and ability to recognise, understand and deal with potential security threats .

 An above-average level of fitness and skills in tactful, diplomatic crisis and problem solving.

 Ability to lead a team displaying tact, diplomacy, and courtesy towards everybody on board.

 Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act (CVSSA) certified (for the ship’s trading in USA) .

 Skilled in both crime and incident investigations; competent in crime scene management.

 Excellent English language skills, both written and oral.

 Read, understand and comply with the Standing Orders of the Master, the Ship Security Plan.

 (SSP), Security Standard Procedures and other Standard Procedures that impact the security Operation Proficient in the use of computerized information systems and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word or other related programs. Proficient in English. Any additional European language is considered an advantage (Italian, Portuguese, German, Spanish and French). Explora Fleet English Level: B2.
