The Engine Repairman Traveling position affects the standard duties of the Engine Repairman role; however, while assigned to the Riding Team, the scope of work may be more focused and project-specific.
Crew selected for Riding Team assignments will contribute their expertise to maintenance across the fleet, with duties centered around defined deliverables rather than the broader daily operational responsibilities typically associated with their onboard role. During the course of the full assignment, the crew member may be assigned on contracts to multiple vessels, requiring additional travel and dynamic work deliverables.
Responsible as well for the maintenance and repair of the machinery and technical equipment, as directed by the First Engineer.
Essential Functions
Assists in repairs, as directed by the First Engineer, of machinery and equipment on board including but not limited to: piping, pumps, foundations, valves, decks, bulkheads, overheads, hatches, ladders, engines, evaporators, heat exchangers, etc.
Keep repairman's workshop clean and organized
Shall be familiar with and follow the Safety Management System including applicable responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan SMS Contingency Plan and procedures and Station Bill.
Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures applicable for subject position.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Must follow instructions given by Manager and Report any faults or defective equipment immediately.
Supports Engine Room operation, maintenance and repairs
Assumes all duties deemed necessary by the First Engineer.
Initiates and maintains effective employee relations at all times.
Under the direction of the First Engineer, ensures that the company procedures are followed.
Qualifications
Minimum of six (6) months prior experience performing mechanical maintenance and repair working with heavy machinery is required.
Minimum of one (1) year experience is required in the following welding methods: ARC, Oxy-Acetylene, MIG and TIG; this also includes cutting and brazing.
Basic to Intermediate level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
Education
Highschool diploma or foreign equivalent is required.
Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.
A current Welding Certificate from an accredited educational institution is preferred.
