Key Responsibilities

The Traveling Fleet Human Resources Director is responsible for strengthening the effectiveness, consistency, and compliance of the shipboard Human Resources function across the fleet. The role partners closely with shipboard and shoreside leadership to ensure HR services, people practices, and governance standards are delivered in line with Princess Cruises’ Core Values, Purpose, and strategic objectives.


Strategic HR Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Acts as a strategic HR partner to shipboard leadership, supporting operational objectives across Deck, Technical, Hotel, and shoreside functions.
  • Provides expert guidance on HR policies, procedures, and governance to ensure consistent interpretation and application fleetwide.
  • Supports fleet‑wide HR initiatives, reorganizations, and change programs through structured implementation and clear communication.
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement in HR processes and service delivery.

People Leadership, Talent Development & Employee Relations

  • Oversees performance management processes and coaches leaders and HR Officers on effective people management.
  • Trains, mentors, and develops shipboard HR Officers, including New Hire HR Officers.
  • Supports succession planning and capability building within the shipboard HR community.
  • Provides guidance on employee relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and constructive resolution of workplace issues.

Onboard Presence, HR Audits & Service Consistency

  • Conducts regular ship visits to ensure consistent, high‑quality HR service delivery.
  • Performs comprehensive audits of the shipboard HR function and presents findings to shipboard leadership and shoreside HR.
  • Provides follow‑up training and coaching to HR Officers based on audit findings and observations.
  • Acts as the onboard HR Officer in emergency or rotational gap situations, as required.

Crew Engagement, Culture & Brand Representation

  • Acts as a visible ambassador for Princess Cruises, consistently role‑modelling company values and service excellence.
  • Partners with shipboard and shoreside HR teams to support crew welfare, engagement initiatives, and Crew Club activities.
  • Analyzes engagement survey and eNPS results to identify trends and support targeted improvement actions.
  • Champions an inclusive, respectful, and values‑driven culture across the fleet.

Compliance, Governance & Risk Management

  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for MLC 2006, supporting audit preparation, training, and ongoing compliance.
  • Monitors Hours of Rest records and works with HR Officers and shoreside teams to address risks and non‑conformances.
  • Ensures compliance with Fleet Regulations, HESS standards, statutory noticeboard requirements, and crew communication obligations.
  • Participates as a member of the MLC Steering Committee.

Communication & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Acts as a key liaison between shipboard teams and shoreside HR, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
  • Maintains regular contact with shipboard HR Officers, providing guidance, escalation support, and follow‑up.
  • Keeps the Senior Manager, Fleet Human Resources Business Partner informed of trends, risks, and significant issues.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Five years’ progressive Human Resources Management experience, which could include, but not limited to, Learning & Development experience, Employee Relations experience, or high-level HR Administration or Supervisory experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Shipboard experience is strongly preferred.
  • Must possess strong leadership, organizational and presentation skills, as well as high self-motivation.
  • Unwavering commitment to - and leadership of - business ethics, integrity, and high professional confidentiality standards.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Ability to multi-task, including flexibility to quickly respond to a dynamic 24/7 operation.
  • Able to communicate at a high level with shipboard and corporate personnel.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle constantly changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive travel required.
  • Ability to serve as a knowledgeable and subject matter expert in HR topics to Executive Management Teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and easily approachable.
  • Excellent organizational management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Advanced verbal, non-verbal, written communication skills.
  • The ability to practice and coach organization managers in the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • For the safety of yourself and others on board, certain physical abilities shall be maintained. Must be able to bend, climb, perform repetitive motion, and repetitively heavy lift.
  • Must maintain physical fitness to perform tasks associated with job.
