- The Incinerator Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the incinerator room and pulper system, including garbage sorting and storage in the cold storage room. This role monitors equipment performance, performs routine cleaning and logging, and follows environmental, safety, and quality standards. Work is conducted under the supervision of the Incinerator Technician with the ability to perform assigned work orders and respond to operational needs as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out work orders and tasks issued by the Incinerator Technician.
- Maintain and clean the incinerator room, pulper system, and associated equipment; monitor operation to ensure safe and proper functioning.
- Sort and process garbage into designated streams (glass, metal tins, aluminum cans); store in the cold garbage storage room and prepare for recycling at designated ports.
- Wash and sanitize areas including floors (with attention to corners), wash basins, stairs, garbage rooms, plastic containers, and bins; keep sensors and equipment clean.
- Log pulper system maintenance, including daily water changes and flow verification for continuous systems; adjust flow as required.
- Immediately report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Incinerator Technician or watchkeeping engineer.
- Ensure all safety and PPE requirements are followed during daily operations.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervision to support vessel waste management operations.
Qualifications & Training
- Basic safety training (BST) completed prior to employment.
- Prior experience in incinerator operation, waste management, or a related maintenance role.
- Ability to read and interpret written procedures; basic mathematical and record-keeping skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills; ability to follow instructions and work independently when required.
- Willingness to work in a hot, noisy, and sometimes strenuous environment; physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Language Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to understand procedures and communicate with supervisors and crew.
- Additional languages are advantageous but not required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Physical: Regularly stand, walk, and perform manual tasks; capable of lifting up to 50 pounds; able to work in confined or hot spaces typical of incineration areas.
- Vision: Adequate vision to read gauges, charts, and written procedures; ability to adjust focus as needed.
- Environmental: Work in an industrial shipboard environment with exposure to heat, foul odors, dust, and fumes; use of PPE required; may require shift work, overtime, and on-call duties; must be able to operate safely around moving machinery and hot surfaces. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and communication abilities is required to perform duties effectively.

Work Experience Requirements
All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship, in a 4/5* Hotel or in an Upscale Restaurant.
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
