Your Purpose

The New Building Project Engineer serves as a key technical reference within the MSC New Building Project team, supporting the design, engineering, construction, delivery and guarantee phases of new cruise ship projects.

 

Working closely with New Building Technical Team, Site Teams, Shipyards, Designers, Consultants and Operational Stakeholders, the Project Engineer ensures the effective development, coordination and execution of technical solutions throughout the project lifecycle. The role acts as a critical interface between Head Office, Site Offices, Shipyards and vessel representatives, ensuring the seamless flow of technical information, timely resolution of engineering issues and successful delivery of project objectives relating to safety, quality, schedule and operational performance.

 

The role requires regular travel to shipyards, supplier facilities and vessels as required.

 

This hands-on, multidisciplinary role leads the coordination and liaison with other several disciplines (including, but not limited to, structural design, naval architecture, vessel stability, machinery, quality control, fire & safety, procurement, electrical & navigation systems, HVAC, piping, architectural conception & design, and outfitting) while supporting the Project Director in ensuring full compliance with the Shipbuilding Contract.

Your Impact

· Acts as a primary technical point of contact for assigned newbuilding projects throughout design, construction, delivery and warranty phases.
· Provides engineering support across all project lifecycle activities, including design development, plan approval, construction, commissioning and delivery.
· Coordinates technical interfaces between MSC departments, shipyards, consultants, suppliers and vessel operational teams.
· Supports the review and approval of drawings, specifications, engineering submissions and technical documentation.
· Supports prototyping and design development activities.
· Contributes engineering expertise to design reviews, inspections, testing, commissioning and acceptance processes.
· Assists in the identification, evaluation and resolution of technical issues, non-conformities and design changes.
· Supports configuration and change management processes, ensuring technical records remain accurate and up to date.
· Supports Project Directors with project management activities, including reporting, risk management, issue tracking and stakeholder coordination.
· Supports Site Team Inspectors during Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), inspections, harbour and sea trials, and other verification activities as required.
· Assists in monitoring compliance with contractual, classification, regulatory and operational requirements.
· Supports vessel delivery and warranty activities, coordinating stakeholders and facilitating the resolution of technical issues.
· Liaises with vessel personnel during vessel visits, including Staff Captains, Chief Engineers, Hotel Maintenance Engineers and other operational stakeholders.
· Documents and communicates lessons learned and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives across the New Building Programme.
· Leads the coordination and liaison with other several disciplines (including, but not limited to, structural design, naval architecture, vessel stability, machinery, quality control, HSE, procurement, electrical & navigation systems, HVAC, piping, architectural conception & design, and outfitting).
· Liaises with the planning department to define and monitor suitable project milestones
· Produces and issues technical reports, milestone status updates and business cases for internal stakeholders and senior management

Your Journey so far

· Comfortable managing complexity and ambiguity, maintaining technical discipline while enabling pragmatic decision-making.
· Strong communicator able to produce clear decisions, explanations and concise written reports for senior stakeholders.
· Collaborative and diplomatic, with confidence to challenge shipyard proposals where necessary.
· Organised, thorough and methodical with demonstrable experience maintaining auditable technical records.
· Proficient in performing concept evaluations and give guidance.
· Keen to attend part of the execution phase at the shipyard site or offshore as required

Your Essentials

· Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
· Minimum 3-5 years' experience within a cruise operator, shipyard, marine consultancy, classification society, or similar maritime environment.
· Working knowledge of vessel design, ship construction processes, marine systems and engineering documentation.
· Ability to review and interpret technical drawings.
· Strong technical coordination, project support, analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly communicate and summarise technical issues.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and comfortable working within multidisciplinary project teams.
· Fluent in English, both written and spoken; knowledge of Italian, German and/or French is advantageous.
· Willingness and ability to travel internationally to shipyards, supplier facilities and vessels as required.
· Right to work in the UK and EU
