Description

The EO is assigned a compliance role only and oversees the ship’s environmental compliance activities, is a non-watchstander, has no operational responsibilities and reports directly to the Master. See Roles and Responsibilities in ENV-1008.



Key Responsibilities

 Embracing and actively promoting Carnival Corporation’s Vision, Mission, Purpose, Culture Essentials, and Company Priorities.  

Proactively checking, monitoring, and supporting shipboard Environmental operations to 1. prevent or 2. detect non-compliance by:   

  • Regularly checking and monitoring that the ship fully complies with Carnival Corporations Environmental policies and procedures contained within the Company’s GHESS Safety Management System. ·        
  •  Checking and Monitoring the Environmental requirements of voyage plans for compliance with company procedures. ·        
  •  Regularly, (at least once a week), meeting with the Captain and shipboard leaders to discuss environmental observations, best practices, or areas of concern. 
  • Conducting regular rounds of the ship, including, but not limited to, technical/deck spaces, garbage/processing areas, housekeeping and food preparation areas. 
  • Verifying that all types of waste are segregated and managed compliantly according to Company procedures. 
  • Overseeing the sampling of liquid and other types of waste according to the agreed sampling protocols or as otherwise required. 
  • Regularly verifying the accuracy of Environmental logbooks and records in accordance with Company procedures. \
  • Verifying that ship specific Environmental documents are up to date and readily available. 

Proactively guiding, mentoring and supporting shipboard employees, as needed, to maintain environmental compliance through: ·    

  •      Participating in meetings required by GHESS procedures and brand directives to clarify Environmental procedures, share Environmental observations, best practices and/or areas of concern. 
  • Assisting shipboard leadership in answering/clarifying questions/complaints from passengers or employees regarding Environmental compliance. 
  •  Providing procedural clarification, guidance, mentoring and support to all employees onboard including those responsible for garbage management. 
  • Raising awareness, supporting and being a champion of the Company’s ISO14001 and Sustainability (Environmental aspects only) programs. Promoting a strong environmental compliance culture onboard including support for achieving set environmental targets/objectives and the fulfilment of the company’s Environmental sustainability goals. 

Delivering and overseeing compliance training including: ·        

  •  Delivering all Environmental training required by Company procedures. ·       
  • Checking and monitoring that Environmental training is completed within the timeframes set by Company procedures. ·  
  • Maintaining accurate and truthful records of Environmental training that is carried out by the Environmental Officer. ·        
  • Checking and monitoring the accuracy and truthfulness of Environmental training completion records for training delivered by other employees.  

Assisting with audits, inspections and action plan development including: Providing assistance to internal/external auditors and 3rd party inspectors upon request.·        

  • Supporting the analysis and determination of root cause as well as the development of corrective and preventative actions in response to Environmental events, findings and port state deficiencies. ·         
  • Monitoring the status of corrective/preventative actions for timeliness and including those associated with compliance issues reported via the Environmental Officers monthly report. ·         Monitoring the status of addressing Environmental related items identified in the inspection rounds.  

Reporting and maintaining Environmental records as required by company procedures, including: ·         

  • Compiling the monthly Environmental compliance report for the Captain and Compliance Officer -Environmental (CO-E). 
  • Supporting the preparation and submitting of Environmental incident reports in accordance with Company procedures. 
  • Maintaining routine visual inspection and dry dock inspection records. 
  • Conducting any other Environmental compliance related duties and/or activities assigned by the Captain or the CO-E 

Work in collaboration with and support the Fleet Environmental Officer during the ship support and mentoring visits.
