Your Purpose

Explora Journeys is a vibrant, cosmopolitan, European luxury brand, imagined in the heart of Swiss hospitality in Geneva. Leveraging our parent company MSC Group’s hundreds of years of maritime expertise, our fleet of six luxury ships (three currently in the pipeline) are being built and designed in a unique way that is redefining the cruise experience, creating a category of its own, appealing to the next generation of luxury travellers. 

An exciting opportunity exists for a talented Onboard Finance Operations Specialist to join our newly created luxury travel brand Explora Journeys, based in our offices in Geneva, Switzerland.   

The Onboard Finance Operations Specialist supports the delivery of efficient, accurate, and compliant onboard finance operations across the Explora Journeys fleet.
The role acts as a key point of contact between shipboard finance teams and shore-side stakeholders, ensuring the consistent execution of financial procedures, the effective resolution of operational issues, and the continuous improvement of onboard finance processes and controls.
Working closely with shipboard teams and corporate departments, the position contributes to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, financial integrity, and the successful implementation of finance-related initiatives throughout the fleet.

Your Impact

Onboard Finance Operations
•    Provide operational support and guidance to shipboard finance teams on financial procedures, policies, and operational matters.
•    Monitor the correct execution of onboard finance processes and ensure compliance with company standards.
•    Support vessels in resolving operational and financial issues in a timely and effective manner.
•    Assist shipboard teams during operational transitions, vessel start-ups, dry docks, and other special projects.

Financial Controls and Compliance
•    Support the implementation and monitoring of onboard financial controls and compliance requirements.
•    Review operational finance activities and identify risks, discrepancies, or control weaknesses.
•    Coordinate follow-up actions and corrective measures with shipboard and shore-side stakeholders.
•    Contribute to internal and external audit activities related to onboard finance operations.

Reporting and Analysis
•    Prepare and maintain operational reports, analyses, and management information.
•    Monitor key onboard finance indicators and investigate variances or anomalies.
•    Support the collection, validation, and reconciliation of operational finance data.
•    Provide insights and recommendations to improve operational performance and financial controls.

Stakeholder Management
•    Liaise with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Revenue, Hotel Operations, IT, Procurement, and other business functions.
•    Act as a central coordination point for finance operational initiatives affecting the Explora fleet.
•    Support effective communication between shore-side management and shipboard finance teams.

Projects and Continuous Improvement
•    Participate in the implementation of new systems, tools, procedures, and operational initiatives.
•    Support testing activities, process reviews, and change management initiatives.
•    Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, standardisation, automation, and governance within onboard finance operations.
•    Maintain and update operational documentation, procedures, and training materials.

Training and Development
•    Support the onboarding and development of shipboard finance personnel.
•    Assist in the preparation and delivery of onboard finance training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
•    Promote best practices and consistent application of procedures across the fleet.

Your Journey so far

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Audit, Revenue Control, Treasury, or operational finance.
• Experience within the cruise, hospitality, travel, luxury, or multinational environment is considered an advantage.
• Exposure to shipboard operations or marine hospitality environments is a strong asset.

Your Essentials

•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
•    Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
•    Knowledge of onboard finance systems, payment solutions, and cash management processes is desirable.
•    Ability to analyse large volumes of operational and financial data accurately.
•    Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
•    Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
•    Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
•    Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

•    Flexibility and willingness to travel internationally when required.
