Purpose of Position

The support of the General Manager to lead the Hotel operation with emphasis placed on the Revenue Departments and the Front-of-House areas (as directed by the Hotel General Manager). Like the Hotel General Manager, he/she is to take all necessary action to implement and enforce that the team delivers the product as set out in the Viking Ocean Product plan is delivered smoothly and flawlessly. Together with the Ships Management you coordinate and execute onboard safety, sanitation, environmental and maintenance procedures.

Your Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the entire service operation onboard
  • Supervision/support of a professional welcoming and sales orientated Guest Service in accordance with S.T.A.R. Service Experience.
  • Assist the HGM to ensure absolute cleanliness and order in accordance with USPH and HACCP rules.
  • Planning all Entertainment and Shop/Concessionaire’s events with Department Heads.
  • Controlling sale of shore excursions, future Cruise sales and tour dispatches.
  • Responsible for timely printing and delivery of all printed matters.
  • Accountable for the supervision and training of all hotel department heads and supervisors, including Concessionaires while improving weak areas in their performance.
  • Establishes an efficient procedure with the staff, Deck and Engine departments for handling repair orders without delay.
  • Arranges regular inspections to ensure that the maintenance is done according to the approved cleaning methods, in an economical manner.
  • Management and motivation of the service crew
  • Provide visible leadership by example. 
  • Align crew attitudes to corporate objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate crew training is carried out on an ongoing basis.
  • Employ contemporary management techniques to ensure all employees are motivated to provide exemplary customer service.
  • Makes sure Heads of Department have fully briefed their staff about their routines before each cruise, with instructions on handling special requests and other unusual situations. 
  • Takes initiative, strong communicator, team player and coach
  • Responsible for cost control and adherence to set budgets
  • Accounting, Payroll, Cruise closing.
  • Clearance of the vessel and Embarkation.
  • Conducts on a weekly basis a Revenue Management Meeting with Chief Purser and all relative department heads to create and maintain new ideas for generating revenue in accordance with Standard Operation Procedures.
  • Ensures that related onboard revenue areas achieve maximum sales and render the best possible services.
  • Ensures that all Hotel Department operations are conducted economically.
  • Receives regular supply inventory reports from all sources in the Hotel Department, ensuring that supplies are sufficient but not excessive.
  • Active liaison with guests
  • Provide visible leadership by example while interacting with guests in all areas
  • Proven skills to be confident when dealing with Guest complaints
  • Support all teams during peak hours, be available to guests for feedbacks and general enquiries.

Receives instructions from:  Hotel General Manager

Your Profile

  • Diploma from international recognized hotel school or university.
  • Min. 5 years Chief Purser or Food & Beverage Manager on 5-star ship.
  • Completed appropriate HR training, craft training or equivalent.
  • Excellent English skills in both writing and speech, other languages a plus
  • Service and detail oriented with a strong guest focus
  • Excellent management, organizational and communication skills
  • Flexibility and stress resistance, team player, commitment, positive personality, professional appearance
