Purpose of Position

The Junior Accountant is responsible for General Ledger Processing (journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, research, analysis, etc.), assisting a Senior Accountant. In addition, this role supports audit-related requirements. Furthermore, the Junior Accountant performs administrative duties.

This role is based in our Head Office in Basel, Switzerland. Please note that we can only accept applicants who are eligible to work in Switzerland or in possession of a valid work permit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs tasks related to general ledger accounting (journal entries, month-end accruals, account and bank reconciliations, account analysis, support schedules, etc.)
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly and yearly closings
  • Prepares and reviews weekly payment runs and is responsible for bank accounting
  • Maintains a wide variety of financial information, files and records for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies
  • Responds to inquiries from a wide variety of sources (e.g. employees, vendors, auditors, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating communication and/or providing guidance among several parties
  • Reviews and processes travel expenses across numerous business functions
  • Supports the Senior Accountant in the preparation and reconciliation of payroll reports and payments
  • Supports accounts payable with filing payment packages, posting vendor invoices, and obtaining approvals on non-PO invoices (as required)
  • Assists in reviewing financial information for the purpose of identifying potential budget variances, compiling statistical information and conforming to established financial practices
  • Assists in preparation of quarterly and yearly audit schedules
  • Assists with intercompany postings, research, and communications
  • Performs administrative functions (mail processing, file maintenance, etc.) as assigned
  • Supports special projects as required and directed by the supervisor or the Finance Department

QUALIFICATION PROFILE

  • One to three years of experience in general accounting
  • Commercial apprenticeship or Bachelor degree
  • Excellent English skills (written and verbal)
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized and able to multi-task
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with MS Dynamics would be an advantage
