Description
The Assistant Technology Manager is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of the electronic equipment used to receive television programs for onboard production. As a member of the Technology department, this role targets and acquires satellite reception for the purpose of broadcast television while absorbing and scheduling digital media for playback on the internal broadcast television system. The Assistant Technology Manager performs basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance of the yacht’s audio / video equipment as well as in-suite television troubleshooting. This role focuses on the setup and operation of audio / video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, and related electronic equipment for special events including presentations and meetings.

Essential Duties
- Operates all Broadcast head-end distribution, TVRO Satellite Antennas, Interactive TV Systems, Digital Media, and Digital Signage.
- Maintains HD / SD Broadcast Systems and signal flow.
- Partners with the Sound & Light Technician and onboard Entertainment team to produce and manage onboard-created content such as lectures, culinary demonstrations, and any other TV content.
- Liaises with both guests and Ladies and Gentlemen on all TV and Broadcast-related requests.
- Supports the Technology Manager by providing maintenance and ongoing support for all servers, computers, tablets, networks, and users onboard.
- Partners with the Technology Manager on all embarkation and debarkation processes related to IT, system connectivity, and communication with all PMS and POS related software.
- Manages the broadcast equipment, software, and content onboard. Ensures that the equipment is maintained and content is up to date. Maintains SAT TV reception, live broadcast, and digital signage.
- Executes physical inventories and inventory spot checks as per inventory schedule. Strives to minimize inventory levels while ensuring sufficient stock levels to operate the department smoothly. Consistently works towards minimizing waste, breakage, and wear and tear.
- Performs live video switching and audio / video console operations. Supports live production and local entertainment venues.
- Provides after-hours support for Broadcast-related problems.
- Performs regular technical checks and preventative maintenance on Broadcast equipment and ensures that the Broadcast Center is clean and organized, while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Creates and monitors maintenance requests for non-functional equipment and any other topics affecting the operation of the Broadcast Center; ensures problems are resolved in an acceptable timeframe and escalates delays to the Technology Manager.
- Conducts troubleshooting, installation, research, documentation, and cabling tasks.
Qualifications
- Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to the position.
- Associate degree in Video Production or equivalent work experience of a minimum of two (2) years (preferred in the cruise industry).
- Experience in a four (4) or five (5) star cruise line, hotel, restaurant, lounge, or resort is necessary.
- Experience with Broadcast head-end distribution, TVRO Satellite Antennas, Interactive TV Systems, Digital Media, and Digital Signage preferred.
- Strong knowledge of PC and Mac hardware and software maintenance and repair, including Windows.
- Excellent production video and audio shooting and editing skills, with knowledge of editing systems and programs.
- Professional audio equipment operation and maintenance procedures knowledge.
- Interactive TV hardware and software support knowledge.
- Strong knowledge and troubleshooting of the following: server ingest of on-air TV content, scheduling of playback of on-air TV content, and satellite TV systems.
- Camera operation, fixed or PTZ.
- Experience with AV switching, video encoding / decoding, and file transcoding is a plus.
- Knowledgeable of IP technology; familiarity with current IT practices and TCP/IP addressing.
- Troubleshooting skills, basic repair skills, and ability to strip cables, crimp connectors, and soldering.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the Lady or Gentleman is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs, as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities, are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency, including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
COMMUNICATION
All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
