Deputy Security Officer (Shipboard)

As the Deputy Security Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a secure environment for the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.  Influencing the highest standards of care and upholding the luxury experience on board you will support the Security Officer in the implementation of security policies and procedures overseeing security measures ensuring that ISPS standards are maintained at all times.  Overseeing the Security Team, you will supervise and coordinate security staff ensuring effective deployment controlling all access points to the vessel and conducting regular safety and security patrols.

The Deputy Security Officer ensures all other Security Guards are properly scheduled and are carrying out their duties to the required standard. The Security Team controls the access points to the yacht and the screening process of our guests, employees, and visitors. The Deputy Security Officer promotes that all Gold Standards and Brand Culture are embraced by the team at all times, particularly when assisting guests and Ladies and Gentlemen.

Essential Duties

The main responsibility of the Deputy Security Officer is to control and supervise all points of entry to the vessel – gangways, tender docking stations and open platforms.  Other duties will include but are not limited to:


  • Supervise and coordinate security staff, ensuring effective deployment and coverage 
  • Perform security and safety checks on a regular basis ensuring the welfare of our guests and Ladies & Gentlemen, supporting a safe and secure operation at all times
  • Ensure that security equipment is suitably maintained and checked as per requirements reporting any operational issues to the Security Officer 
  • Supervise and coordinate the search and screening of all crew and guests' during embarkation and disembarkation 
  • Respond promptly to security breaches and emergencies, coordinating appropriate responses and supporting the Security Officer where required
  • Provide instruction and guidance briefings to the team encouraging feedback and problem solving where necessary 
  • Ensure that applied security measures do not interfere with the normal operation of the vessel and presents minimal discomfort to guests 
  • Any other duties as required by Security Officer or Chief Officer

People Management

  • Supports the department’s expectations for desired behavior, knowledge and skill levels

  • Demonstrates alignment with corporate strategies and initiatives while ensuring alignment throughout the yacht organization


  • Proven experience in a shipboard security supervisory role and must be able to use computer systems required including Microsoft office, access control and CCTV systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of security screening methods including awareness of anti-terrorism countermeasures including familiarity with security technologies such as CCTV, alarm systems and access control systems (including x-ray, metal detector, explosive/narcotics detection
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills supported by experience/education in conflict management and personal safety awareness
  • Knowledge and experience of incident response including first response, scene and evidence management
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and maritime regulations
  • Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to position, including completion of Ship Security Officer course
  • Three (3) years’ experience as part of a cruise vessel Security Team, preferably as Security Supervisor
  • Military or policing background preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
