The 3rd Engineer position is the entry level role into the Engine Department, being the first officer position within this Department. The 3rd Engineer is essentially the right hand to the 1st Engineer and is considered a Technical Officer onboard. The 3rd Engineer position is the platform to begin learning Engine Control Room duties under the supervision of the Chief Engineer and/or Chief Engineer Jr.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- In accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s philosophy of Anchored in Excellence, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.
- Be advised that RCL places the highest value on the environment, and all employees shall do the same. Those assigned to this position shall work with superiors and subordinates to understand and comply with the company's environmental policies and be committed to safeguard the environment.
- Be familiar with all duties under the company safety management system including emergency response.
- Assists the 1st Engineer with repair and maintenance of the main engines.
- Is responsible for becoming familiar with the all Engine systems under the supervision and guidance of the 1st Engineer and in partnership with the 2nd Engineers.
- Stands duty in the Engine Control Room with the assigned 2nd. Engineer. This must happen based on a schedule approved by the Chief Engineer depending on the operational needs of the vessel.
- Engine duty on a Tank Top level under supervision of Engineer on Watch.
- Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required both onboard and shore-side.
- Performs other duties as required by the 1st Engineer.

Hiring Requirements:
- The employee must be a minimum age of 18.
- Basic understanding of Hydraulic Components/Functions for hydraulic operating systems. (OA Class)
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
Qualifications:
- The employee must hold a License as Watch keeping Engineer in accordance with STCW Convention issued by a country that has ratified the convention.
- The employee must have a valid Medical Certificate.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Experience Requirements
All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship.
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
