Position Summary 

The Ordinary Seaman (O/S) Sailor is responsible for the maintenance and conservation of the vessel’s decks and superstructures, supporting daily operations, safety, and environmental policies. The O/S reports to the Bosun and assists in deck duties, safety procedures, and environmental compliance to ensure the vessel’s optimal condition and adherence to company standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies. Employees may be required to perform functions across various service venues and areas throughout the ship.
It is every employee’s responsibility to conduct themselves professionally and courteously at all times, engaging in positive interactions with guests and fellow crew members, especially in guest contact and crew areas.

Environmental Commitment:

  • Work with supervisors and colleagues to understand and uphold the company's environmental policies.
  • Immediately report any environmental system malfunctions to the immediate supervisor.
  • Support and promote environmental conservation efforts onboard.

Safety & Quality Management:

  • Be familiar with the Company’s Safety and Quality Management System (SQM), including responsibilities within the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
  • Conduct daily operations under supervision, with the ability to take independent action when necessary.
  • Participate in safety drills, training, and guiding less experienced crew members to improve deck operations.
  • Observe and suggest improvements for shipboard operations to the Bosun.
  • Always use appropriate safety and protective equipment as instructed by the Bosun.

Support Duties:

  • Assist deck officers and other crew members in various activities as required, supporting overall vessel maintenance and safety.

Financial responsibilities:

  • Responsible for cost containment through proper handling, use, and maintenance of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.

Motivational responsbilities:

  • No direct motivational responsibilities associated with this position.

Hiring Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year previous experience as a Sailor or in a similar deck support role.
  • Ability to apply customer service skills according to the STAR program when interacting with guests and coworkers.
  • Maintain current STCW training certification.
  • Demonstrates strong character, professional ethics, and good manners.

Language Requirements:

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
  • Ability to read and write in English to interpret procedures, give/receive instructions, and communicate effectively with guests, supervisors, and colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, handle equipment, reach, talk, hear, and smell.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be physically capable of participating in emergency life-saving procedures and drills, including lowering lifeboats, with full use of arms, legs, and sensory functions.
