Position Overview
- The Mechanic is a highly skilled professional responsible for executing a wide range of welding and metal repair tasks across various vessel types. This role involves rotating between ships as assigned by the Manager, ensuring high standards of workmanship, safety, and environmental compliance in all repair activities.
Core Responsibilities
- Welding & Repair Operations: Perform precise and high-quality welding of all common metals and alloys used onboard, including but not limited to steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, adhering to the highest industry and company standards.
- Project Execution & Supervision: Complete assigned welding and repair projects efficiently, following technical specifications and instructions from the Chief Engineer or designated supervisor. Ensure all work meets safety and quality benchmarks.
- Environmental Compliance & Safety: Uphold the company's commitment to environmental protection by following all environmental policies and procedures. Immediately report any malfunction or noncompliance related to environmental systems to superiors.
- Tool & Equipment Management: Responsible for the proper handling, transfer, and maintenance of RCMT welding tools and equipment between vessels, ensuring readiness and safety for all operations.
- Quality Assurance: Verify that all welding and repair work is performed to the highest standards, with particular attention to structural integrity, corrosion resistance, and safety requirements.
- Coordination & Communication: Collaborate effectively with onboard and shoreside teams to ensure smooth execution of repair projects, providing technical guidance as needed.
Additional Duties:
- Undertake any other tasks or projects as directed by the department head, including training, inspections, or system improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational & Technical Background
- Proven expertise in welding, with certifications relevant to maritime or industrial standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, API).
- Experience working with various metals and alloys commonly used in marine environments.
- Professional Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of practical welding experience onboard ships or in a maritime repair setting.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced welding techniques, includinG SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and other processes as required.
- Environmental & Safety Awareness:
- Strong understanding of environmental policies and safety procedures related to welding and onboard operations.
- Personal Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with shipboard and shoreside teams effectively.
- Flexibility to rotate between vessels and adapt to diverse operational environments.

Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
