Bosun

Your Purpose

An exciting opportunity exists for a world class Bosun to join our newly created luxury travel brand “Explora Journeys”. The Bosun will supervise all Deck hands in cooperation with the Staff Captain and assure maintenance and cleanliness of the ship.  

Your Impact

• By mutual arrangement with the 2nd Bosun, be on board the vessel at any time the 2nd Bosun is absent from the ship.

• Consult daily with the Staff Captain concerning methods and procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of the department.

• Assign maintenance and repair duties to deck department personnel and actively supervise in overhaul and repair work. Inspect work in progress and on completion, assure that manpower is utilized to the fullest extent, that work is properly performed in accordance with acceptable standards and that no wastage of materials occurs.

• Supervise the use of appropriate material for maintenance, adequate safety for personnel and equipment.

• Supervise the proper disposal of all garbage, according to International, National, Flag State and Company regulations.

• Prepare requisitions for deck department stores and spare parts and submit them to the Staff Captain for approval.

• Maintain an inventory of materials on hand and on order. Receive and sign for materials and ensure they are properly labeled, preserved, stowed and secured to avoid loss from damage or deterioration.

• Train his deck department force, particularly new hires, to assure safe working practices.

• Ensure that functions are fully recognized by each subordinate and that work done and the manner of performance conforms to established standards.

Your Journey So Far

• Fluent English, oral and written. Any additional language is considered an advantage.

• Extensive Successful Experience in a similar position with another Cruise Line.

• Great communication skills and ability to coach and motivate the team.

Your Essentials

Full compliance with the requirement of the Law Flag State of the ship regarding Safety and health and physical requirements.Documentation according with STCW
