A corporate extension of the Director Entertainment Operations, Senior Director Entertainment Operations, and Vice President Entertainment Operations. Assists with the service training and development of all shipboard Recreation Manager/Supervisor, Team Leaders and Recreation Staff members, ensuring service standards are met, adherence to corporate policies and procedures, and standard operating procedures. Ensures that safety protocols and guest satisfaction is achieved and maintained within the targets established by the company. While onboard, reports to the Staff Captain, General Manager, Cruise Director and Safety Officer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works in conjunction with the Staff Captain, Chief Officer and Safety Officer to maintain a high standard of safety procedures for all recreation staff and recreation areas.
Recreation areas are; Ropes Course, Rockwall, Waterslides, Rappelling Wall, Miniature Golf, Basketball Court, Golf Cages, Laser Tag, Ping Pong Equipment Go-Kart Track, The Galaxy, Giant Chess/Checkers, Shuffleboard, Bocce, Bowling Alley, Dry Slides, The Stadium, Darts, Slide Coaster, Dry Slides, Escape Rooms.
Assists with establishing and maintaining standards for the consistent quality of all recreation programs and services.
Monitors the performance of all recreation staff, and all other recreation related services, to ensure that their duties and services are carried out in accordance with company policies and standards.
Assists with implementing processes and other procedures that lead to efficiencies and continuous improvement in safety.
Assists with establishing procedures for minimum and maximum par-stocks in all recreation storerooms.
Creates and conducts formal and informal training sessions with all Recreation Staff related to safety awareness, basic operations skills, and guest service.
Ensures that all cost control procedures are properly carried out to ensure minimum waste.
Conducts a physical recreation inventory (spot checks) on each visit to the vessel.
Assists with establishing procedures for storeroom operations including ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, and inventory control.
Advises on product and equipment specification.
Be a direct to liaison with vendors and schedule regular maintenance with them in conjunction with Senior Director of Entertainment Operations.
Have an awareness of maintenance issues and partner with Jr Electronics for onboard maintenance and Superintendents, regarding overall upkeep of facilities. Suggest improvements for Dry Docks.
Work directly with the Innovation Team to give input and a different perspective on future attractions.
Audit onboard signage for accuracy, consistency and branding.
Contribute to the creation and revisions of SOPs as needed.
Manage the schedules of the Recreation Managers, Supervisors and Team Leaders and make staffing suggestions as needed to the Assignment Specialist.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
DIMENSIONS
Monitors and analyzes equipment cost, consumption and results. Strives to improve the safety record and guest satisfaction through effective training. Implements and trains team members on new recreation initiatives.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Recommends changes to the Senior Director Operations when adjustments are necessary. Monitors procedure to ensure that guest complaints are handled in accordance with company policy.
Meets with shipboard Hotel Management to discuss the objectives of his/her visit, progress observed, and results achieved. Also works with corporate rollout of all fleet-wide training.
The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in recreation operations on a cruise ship and/or shore side related management position is required.
Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
Minimum three (3) years of experience with maintaining par inventories is required.
EDUCATION
Recreation Degree/Certificate or a similar discipline is required. Related experience and/or training may substitute for this educational requirement at an equivalent.
Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell. All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting more than 25 pounds. This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
Work within different temperature changes—indoors to outdoors.
Able to pass basic safety course.
