Your Purpose
The Bridge and Nautical Equipment specialist is responsible for overseeing the installation, testing, and acceptance of navigational bridge equipment, ensuring all systems are delivered in accordance with project requirements until vessel delivery
The role also supports some key activities within the Deck and Safety department and is responsible for managing navigational bridge equipment warranty and guarantee claims following vessel delivery.
You will also provide supervision and acceptance of safety equipment and systems, including lifesaving appliances, fire-fighting systems, fire protection, and related equipment. The role also provides technical support during the review and approval of drawings and documentation.
As the lead specialist for this area, you will act as the main point of contact for all bridge and nautical equipment matters, working closely with Fleet Operations, ship construction teams, shipyards, and suppliers.
Your Impact
- Oversees the installation of the Bridge equipment and Safety related equipment installed on the Bridge as per approved drawing and International and Company regulation.
- Participates to the Manufacturer FATs and provides feedback to the technical and on-site department.
- Monitors the daily work of the contractors on board the vessel so to resolve issues as identified during the official inspection calls and patrolling;
- Supervises that installation of all equipment is in accordance with the contractual documents, project schedule and the master plan of the vessel under construction;
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the contractual document, the relevant specifications and the main the scope of work;
- Provides periodic technical reports and weekly updates to the head of shipbuilding and director of site offices;
- Ensures that all the bridge and nautical equipment and systems are safe to operate, installed according to the manufacturers specification and with reasonable access for future maintenance and repair;
- Acts proactively in enforcing that remarks, defects and other non-conformities identified from past projects, or from vessels in operation, are being addressed to the builder and followed during the inspection or commissioning process;
- Follows up, coordinates and supervises the Bridge Equipment Guarantee CLAIMS after the ship delivery;
- Participates in workshop with the related technical department to discuss, evaluate, improve and optimize arrangement design and installation of new or retrofitted vessel.
- Supervises the installation and the delivery / acceptance of: insulation, piping (mainly water-mist and fire-fighting), main doors and main side-doors
- Supports marine, safety and structure department regarding some crucial topics.
Your Journey so far
- Bridge or Safety Officers are preferred; previous working experience on Bridge equipment installation or Master License with experience on Cruise Vessels
- Technical knowledge of the Bridge Equipment (such as but not limited to: INS, Fire System, SMCS, GMDSS and Radio equipment, VDR, Steering and Propulsion control,Internal Communication system);
- Significant experience running inspections in shipyards for bridge, nautical and/or marine safety activities
- Ability to review new building specifications and drawings;
- Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office (including Excel, MS Word, MS Project or equivalent and PowerPoint);
- Ability to work in a cross cultural environment and communicate with internal/external stakeholders at all level;
- Problem solving and a ‘can do’ attitude;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Very moderate travel is required
Your Essentials
- Right to work in Italy and to travel within the EU
- Fluency in English, knowledge of Italian is a plus
